bankerbird at his finest.  so full of himself, so ultimately inept.  He was indeed welcomed into the tailgate ... most kept 3 feet away.  I asked him why he banned me in '07 and he didn't have a good answer so I offered to get him a beer.  Hocked a big ole loogie in it before passing it over.  Have a nice day.

Can you explain exactly how fans "overlooking" a team will effect the performance of the team on the field?

I've never understood the science behind this theory, so maybe you can explain it to me.

Well, for one it helps not get your own hopes up and assuming a win is guaranteed in this league....because that is never the case. We seem to be a perfect example of having the highs get to high and the lows getting to low. We are (almost always) never as bad as some people seem to think we are, nor as good as some people want to believe. However, we are good enough to win a Super Bowl this year, and that is all that matters. If we drop a regular season game in the next 4 weeks, I'm sure plenty of the couch coaches will start calling for people's heads. When actually, whatever cost us the game probably had been happening all year, but since we were winning no one was getting out the pitchforks.

On the other hand (and by far the more important one of the two) players have admitted after big losses that they weren't prepared. It is part of the process. If you have a big Sunday night game coming up next week, you may look past Johnny Manziel starting against you this week. That leads to major upsets. ***Disclaimer*** I AM NOT SAYING WE ARE GOING TO LOOK PAST THE FALCONS. However, could anybody blame them if they did? Falcons are in a free fall and haven't won since Halloween. We are at home and undefeated.

I'm just saying, the Falcons still have talent. Let's not act like they are the Cleveland Browns. They have beaten us here before and, if we have a bad day, they have the ability to do it again. Hopefully the team's 'one game at a time' motto is for real. If so, we should be alright.

You keep saying "we".  Are you a member of the team or staff?

When I say "we" I'm referring to THE FANS.  If all you are is a "fan" then you too are referring to the fans when you say "we".

Now, again, I ask you:  How does 10 or 100 or 1000 or 10,000 fans thinking a game is a "gimme" or (conversely) a "sure loss" effect the preparation and performance of THE TEAM?  Your explanation above is real nice and all, but it answers a question you've created in your head, not the question *I* asked.

You see, I believe in science, reason, logic, and the real world.  I don't think that what fans think or believe creates "bad joo-joo" that effects the performance of a team one way or the other.  The powerful brain force of the collective fan base has NOTHING at all to do with how a team prepares and performs.

So, yeah, I can think we're gonna beat the holy crap out of the Falcons if I want to.  Know why?  Because it has NOTHING to do with how the team will prepare or perform.

See paragraph 1 of my original response for how it effects "we" THE FANS: "If we drop a regular season game in the next 4 weeks, I'm sure plenty of the couch coaches will start calling for people's heads. When actually, whatever cost us the game probably had been happening all year, but since we were winning no one was getting out the pitchforks." A case of "we" THE FANS overreacting based on not seeing the whole picture.

See paragraph 2 of my original response to see how thinking a game is a "gimme" effects the preparation and performance of THE TEAM:  "On the other hand players (as in... THE TEAM) have admitted after big losses that they weren't prepared. It is part of the process. If you have a big Sunday night game coming up next week, you may look past Johnny Manziel starting against you this week. That leads to major upsets." A case of THE TEAM looking over their opponent.

So all in all, I was actually giving perspective of how looking past a team effects both "we" THE FANS and also the team or staff. It is your right to to believe whatever you want to about the game. I just hope the team continues to prepare like every game is the biggest one of the season. So far they've done a great job of it.
