Insight into the Norman sack...

...via speculation from Tom Jackson on NFL Primetime.

Jackson said after watching the play that he believes it wasn't a designed corner rush. Per TJ, Norman was in a zone and the whole play basically just went away from him. So Norman, seeing Wilson hanging out there, decided on his own to go after him.

Don't know if that can be confirmed, but rewatching the play, it kinda makes sense.

Im pretty sure i saw a quote from norman earlier that basically confirmed this.  I think he used the phrase "going rogue".

this was my thought as well. it would've had to have been one hell of a delayed blitz from the most unorthodox position to be planned.

I remember thinking before the game that they don't really use Norman much on blitzes (which I can understand). Wondered if it was something they might try in the postseason.

I don't want to ever see him blitz again this year.  At least not on a planned blitz.  If he's on the #1 receiver please don't take him off and leave it up to Coleman to cover.

right, if wilson had turned back to that side of the field and a safety wasn't trailing it would've been a disaster (potentially, i don't have the play in front of me.)

the defense was probably as frustrated as anyone at the lack of stops and something just snapped.

guaranteed the cardinals and the patriots are good enough to take advantage of gaffes... better not try that against brady

We did have one intentional blitz of norman, i think.  I agree that mcd should never call that again.  Blitz any of the other secondary if you want but not josh.  Bostons sack was nice...i still wish he played d a bit more.

Palmer will gift us a pick or two. Our DBs can catch. The AZ game won't be close either. No idea about the SB though. But people will flame me anyways for being confident that my team will win. Flame away. :)

It looked like Norman was on Lynch and then Lynch ran a crossing route away from Norman's Zone. If Norman's zone was the flat on that side and he had no one in it, and the QB's outlet receiver (Lynch) just ran away from that zone, it actually doesn't seem like a huge gamble on Norman's part at that point to go after the QB. 

Seemed like a very cerebral football play to me.

Yeah I expect a different game too. But I see is getting a pick or more. Palmer will make mistakes that we actually capitalize on.

i'd need to rewatch it. if his zone completely cleared at then yeah go for it
