Westbrook/Delhomme contract similarities?

Remember how everyone was shocked when the Eagles signed Westbrook to a long-term deal last year? It was something along the lines of 5 years and 30 million bucks. Well, the Eagles did the smart thing which was build in a sort of opt-out clause for the team. Players are allowed to opt-out all the time so why not a team? The deal was that if they wanted to exercise their option on him they would have to pay him 7 million bucks. Well...they didn't pick up the option so Westbrooks deal ends in 2010.

The reason I bring this up is because nobody knew about it (that I had heard) and maybe we did the same thing with Delhomme's contract. IMO that would have been the best move for Hurney and Fox to guarantee they had a QB if they wanted one but if he crashed and burned they could cut ties sooner rather than later.

Its not the same. Bottom line is Jake was scheduled to make 11m this season. Panthers couldnt do that with peps tag. They were forced to rework jake. The deal is basically, based on three years and back loaded on the final two, to some extent. They can not release him this comming year, without major roster rework to eat the double digit millions cap hit.

Deal for westbrooke was based on what he is with thoughts of what he could turn out to be.

Jakes deal was based on cap reason and there belief he would make it atleast another three years.

Well...no matter the case it shouldn't be out of the question for us to bring in a young QB to learn the position. Even if we have Jake on the roster...

blitz hit the nail on the head - it was a forced move more then anything else. Im sure that the FO is already looking towards the future, but in the mean time we need a vet at the position and a vet on the bench while the QB of the future develops. Im sure we will see the panthers draft a guy next year.

For any team to carry on success (to whatever extent), they do need to invest on a future QB and figure out who that is going to be... It's that time, even if Jake starts another 3 years. They need to be thinking heavily on a replacement in the future, now.. If it's Moore, then in 3 years, he better be ready without us holding our hands in the air like, "we don't know where we went wrong."

      I think his football IQ is well below average. I do not think he can read defenses at all. He is not the long term answer. I'm getting worried about DC. I think he has problems seeing the big picture for each game. Some people can't accept it, but this game is greatly affected by momentum. It's hard to explain but you can just feel his decisions break it at least two or three times a game (I think he is pretty solid when it comes to 4th down decisions). My biggest concern is this. You have seen these coaches time and time again. For some reason you have these coaches that absolutely will not go with what is working. We need a name for these coaches, what is it? If something is working great, they just do not have the intelligence to comprehend that something working is actually good for their team. They cannot understand this. AND REPORTERS NEED TO CALL THIS OUT. Rushing was insane for the past two games...ok let's take half his carries away and have Bryce air it out (look at the attempts he had). The reporters need to freaking ask "((this)) was working, you didn't do ((this)), do you consider that bad coaching? If so, why? If not, why do you defend doing the opposite of what it best?" Anyone knows you keep doing something until they stop it. But you have these coaches that think the are going to pull a fast one on them and do the thing that is not working. Dave is starting to remind me of that guy in the movie Kung Pow. I think his name was Weeblow or something, he had those squeaky shoes when he ran around. The Kung Fu masters trained him wrong as a joke, so he did things to get the crap beat out of him instead of winning the fight. I am going to start calling Dave Canales WEEBLOW if he keeps doing the opposite of what would win. But seriously, if he is going to be that type of coach, I would honestly get rid of him after this season. You 100% do not want a coach with this flaw...they may have one good fluke season but it will be years of terrible teams.

      A QB who can't consistently throw the ball 20 yards downfield has no business being a starting QB in this league. That is a backup QB who you put in there to manage a game when your starter goes down.
