So I'm looking around the north side of PB, La Jolla, and North Park.  Seem like the best fits with an ok commute.  Keeping my eye out for a steal close to Solana but it's a tough find. I've been told to keep it north of Chalcedony St. in PB.

Dude, North Park is right outside downtown. Some great places there, classic Craftsman architecture and all, but the commute from there is close to 40 minutes without traffic.

Go north, young man. Look around Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista- you'll be surprised.

I don't feel like a young man these days but I'll check those areas out haha.  Not to sound pretentious or anything but I've been told they have a military family area vibe (Not that I'm against it if the area is cool; I see you served..props)

The few people I know out there (we're late 20s types) keep saying look around north PB or North Park.

Don't get me wrong, I love North Park and even lived there for about 6 months way back in the day. My parents lived there before I was born and the resurgence of that neighborhood is phenomenal.

Was never much of a PB fan- it's always been kind of difficult to get around/in/out/through.

Carlsbad is very cool, but can be a little pricey. Oceanside is home to Camp Pendleton which is like the second largest Marine base in the country. But there are parts of that town where you'd never know there was a military presence.

Nobody's mentioned Ocean Beach? That's what I consider to be my home...

Looking south with Sunset Cliffs to the right of the pier. Point Loma all the way at the end on the right and the Coronado Islands way off in the distance... yeah, that's Mexico....

North County user be pretty tame and overrun by that military presence. Since about 10 years ago, that's all changed.

Oceanside is where I currently reside, and I just moved into a house after spending countless years in a one bedroom apt that was on the beach. The one bedroom was surprisingly affordable.

That's where it gets tricky. Fly out for an extended weekend and rent a bike-cycle. You have to pedal around the coastal neighborhoods and you can find a great prices apt under local management that isn't advertised online. You can do this ANYWHERE in any of the coastal towns. It'll get you by until you find something more permanent (or you can get lost in its whimsical and charming lifestyle and stay for life -- if I didn't just create a child I'd still be living in my spot).

Carlsbad may be your best bet, and it's not far from SB. That's if you go the North County route. It's true, Vista and Escondido, and San Marcos are cheap, but inland sucks balls. You're moving here for the SoCal experience, do it right. You'll also learn that none of us who actually live in SoCal call it SoCal. VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

PB is one of my favorite places. Ever. It's a college beach town. It's amazing. The commute is something you get used to. They've expanded freeways and you'll be going the opposite way of most traffic. Also, if you stay coastal, there is the option of using the Coaster. It's a nice train that runs the coast, and has a stop in the heart of Solana Beach.

Ser Davos, I hope you surf or at least stand up paddle board. You're going to have the best time of your life.

OK update:

I visited for a bit 2 weeks back.  Stayed with a friend in PB and looked everywhere from Leucadia to PB to North Park.

I had to put an application down somewhere as a backup close to Solana and found a standard apartment complex in La Jolla/UTC just west of the 5.

I have however found a hidden gem this week in Del Mar Heights/Solana Beach (really close) but don't know if I will like living in such a quiet/family oriented area (although I will be near the beach and some shops/restaurants)

So...long story short:

-Can't find crap in Leucadia/Encinitas

-PB is a tad crowded and rowdy but there can be decent spots in its north parts

-UTC/La Jolla is doable, just kind of suburban for my tastes

Need to make up my mind soon bc I move in 2.5 weeks!

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
