Biggest Panthers needs/solution going into draft

Spot on.

98% of mock drafts have us taking a OT at 30. 98% of those mock drafts will be wrong.

Most talking heads know very little about the Panthers.  They had us picking a TE for 10 years straight.

This year, they just say, "hey, Von Miller had some sacks in the Super Bowl"  "Panthers have to pick a tackle"  Very short sighted but normal for those guys

1st Round    DE

2nd Round  DT

3rd Round  CB

4th Round  OT

5th Round  WR

7th Round S

Gman not reactionary

Here's my guess:

1st:  DE (or maybe DT) if one we like isn't there, possibly RB (D. Henry), C (Kelly) or OT. ... or SLIM possibility to trade down.

2nd:  RB, WR  / TE or safety.   This is the hardest round for me to predict.  I really see 4 or 5 guys who would be GREAT for us in this round:  Both Henrys; Shepard, Cravens, Bell.

3rd:  CB, DT or possibly RB

Here's a breakdown of the positions of the top players who were available to us in each of 25 - 28 mock drafts I did this morning, almost always using the most recent boards at fanspeak.  You can see there's a huge drop off in DEs and CBs available to us from round 1 to round 2.  While there's a huge increase in RBs, TEs, and offense in general.   There are also a lot of safeties typically available to us in round 2.  (Note:  I've counted Su'a Cravens as a safety, not an OLB)

Just to clarify a bit further what this table shows:   For example: In 28 mock drafts for round 1, I compiled the top 20 remaining players on the board at our pick, for a total of 560 players total.  99 of those players were WRs.  (8 different WRs who showed up a combined 99 times in the top 20 players on the board in the 28 drafts)

Given these results, I really think that unless an exceptional player falls to us, we'll go defense in round 1 (most likely DE/DT) and offense in round 2 (RB / TE / WR).   Oline players and S are something of a wildcard.  Either could possibly go in round 1 or 2 depending on how the draft board shakes out and whether a player we really love is on the board.

I would tend to agree. As much as I like both Henry's, a DE at #30 makes the most sense. There is a severe drop off in talent on 4-3 DE's after the 1st 5/6 guys.

Some things to consider. The Panthers are going to have a much bigger target amd lots of teams are going to try and do what the Broncos did. Yes i know you have to have the personnel but you catch my drift.

If they go OT won't he be a back up unless he rocks in training camp?

CB and DE seem obvious. A wr is a luxury now.

Fuller and Nassib i do like.

To me with the way a losing SB team takes a small step back i would try to gain an extra pick or 3 for NEXT year.

I tend to agree.  I could still see us taking a WR if a really perfect fit for us (Shepard?) is there BPA, but I think the priority has dropped.  And think the idea of drafting a TE now is DEFINITELY a luxury.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
