LeBatard: Building a Franchise in Salary Cap Sports Isn't Finding Great Players, It's Finding Great Value

Ask yourself this: Why are people supporting him?

The answer is simple: Because under Gettleman we've had more success than at any other time in this franchise history.

And why is that? Because he makes the right moves way more often than he does the wrong ones. And that's included letting go of popular players that led to a lot of screaming and crying.

Frankly, just because you can't separate your emotions from a business decision doesn't mean others can't.

Scot, Gettleman admitted he let his emotions affect decisions before, lol.  Again, almost every possible career and/or vocation out there that involves making decisions is not void of emotions.  Just because he is a GM doesn't mean he magically becomes a business-minded robot.  We will just have to agree to disagree because apparently a lot of people on this board think Gettleman is a supermutant incapable of mistakes.  He is a human being, lol.

And where did I say I didn't support him?  That statement right there shows that having a conversation with most of those who have quoted me is pointless...  lol, I never said I didn't support him...  as the GM of my team, he is MY GM.  Why would I not support him?  Many here apparently can't distinguish the difference between criticism and outright disdain.  And that shows you all are acting out of emotion and making the conversation about something that it isn't.

Look back at what Thomas96 quoted from the other thread and tell me that sounds like unemotional, objective/constructive criticism.

The reason why people argue with you is because you post things that sound emotional and reactionary. Maybe you don't see that, but you might wanna ask yourself if you're getting these responses so frequently because everyone is misreading you or because that's how you really sound.

Read it as if you were reading someone else's post and tell me how you'd see it.

I know what I post and what it invites, lol.  I wear my emotions on my sleeve, but I'm also a resonable person who appreciates valid, relevant discussions to further explore the issues.  I'll also acknowledge when i'm wrong.  And that's my point, i haven't been proven wrong, yet people are attacking me as though their side of the argument is rooted in facts.  Both sides of the argument are emotional about something, but it's easy to target my side of the argument because it's not popular.

Some of these same idiots giving a standing ovation to every single move our FO makes were blindly doing the same thing with Hurney...  they just don't want to hear anything that doesn't fall in with the groupthink already established and adopted by the majority.

I have a group of posters chasing me from thread to thread, quoting me from other threads with pitchforks and torches, and you are reminding ME that it's because I'm emotional and reactionary?  Lol...  might wanna give that same chat to some other folks too.

Simply put, there are two sides to every argument, and the one surrounding Gettleman boils down to he is infallible and never makes mistakes because he is a professional football executive devoid of emotion  (lol) vs my strongly worded stance that he has, can, and will operate like a human being and make mistakes occasionally but overall has done a great job.  Which of those arguments sound more absurd?

Has anyone really said this, or hinted at it?

No one is attacking you, they just wonder why you are super emotional in one thread, wait a couple hours and come back with a totally different look?

Back to the subject, I don't think that offering the tag, nor pulling the tag from Josh were emotional...especially the pulling part.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
