Cam Newton on WFNZ (Part 2)

As a huddle "stenographer" I listened to part 2 of Cam's interview on WFNZ and wanted to share how it went. Cam sounded relaxed and having a good time. Which I really think is his best way of being interviewed... in a chill, non confrontational environment. They got a lot of good nuggets out of the MVP

Part 2: The Dab is over. It is retired.

Cam Newton on Von Miller: Has utmost respect Demarcus Ware and Von Miller. They have mutual friends. At the end of the day, I want to be the best. But we have another opportunity on September 8th… and you better believe that game is circled with his SHARP1E. Its not a rematch game, but the first game on the schedule.

Cam on Charlotte: I like how the energy around the city has changed. It’s so crazy. I have to make a confession, when I first got here, my bone with Charlotte was that there was no pride. There were other teams colors… But it’s our house. It’s a mentality. The defense has a mantra, defend our dirt. I don’t have any problems with any fans. But it’s a respect thing… When you come in my house, you dog on right I will be offended.

Cam on Steph Curry: Could you beat Steph one on one? The competitive Cam says absolutely… In real life.. no way. (emphatic.)  I’m a big fan of Steph and his family. He’s a person that does it the right way. He celebrates. He has fun. We had a conversation about sports… a person asked me is Steph Curry the best basketball player on the planet. Cam says no. Steph Curry is the best basketball player on the best team on the planet. Lebron is still the best player in the world. But it tells you how important the power of team is better than the power of individual skill.

Cam smiles when he’s told he was as important to Lebron or Steph. “That means a lot.”

Asked about the Super Bowl Press Conference: I talked to friends and I talked my family. Feels like he cant say if he would do it again, until he’s in that situation. Says You can’t judge anything or anybody until you’ve been in their shoes. (Cam has yet to see the press conference.) Admitting to learn from it. Will not become a better loser. I’m born to win. Be a winner. Master your craft. You don’t live to be mediocre.

On Muhammad Ali:  When Cam was 7 or 8 years, people would mistake his dad for Muhammad Ali. Cam’s dad would say, yes I’m Cecil Ali. Cam fell in love with Ali. He stood for something.

On the Kickball tournament: Talks about All proceeds go to the Cam Newton foundation. Eddie George, Brandon Lafell, The Amigos, and others.

On the Panther culture: The Panther culture is at the point where we don’t need coaches at practice… We have coaches to facilitate what we’re supposed to do. They could have a players only practice because they’re so self motivated.

(There is a part 1) But I didn’t hear it live. Feel free to post it here when it becomes available.(KB)

    • We don't have to tear down Dak to appreciate what Bryce did yesterday. Dak had 0 running game. If the cowboys were better, he'd be a legit MVP candidate if he keeps playing this way.  They did it with Ceedee last year, but they do a better job of anybody we play consistently of getting their best receiver off Jaycee.  Bryce was good too. If we just catch the ball that was intercepted, we probably win by 7+, and Bryce goes over 200 yards passing.  Biggest shift the last few weeks has been play calling. I thought Canales abandoned the run game way to early at times last year. This year he really seems to be sticking with it.  I still think Chuba is better at making 4 yards when there's nothing there, but Rico is better at making 30 yards when there's 6 there. I like the direction. Hopefully we can get Moton, Sanders and Coker back and really be dangerous. Our play action game is pretty deadly right now.  Unrelated: My favorite quality about Bryce right now is his ability to see the defensive hold and throw the ball there. He EXPOSES the officials when they don't call it. That one on Tetaroia yesterday late in the game was a bad miss on their part.
    • That sacks allowed number lookin juicy!
    • This is a game the Panthers should win... just the sort of game they lose. The Panthers have a bad habit that goes back years of playing down to the competition's level only to mess around and lose the game. The Jets game should be taken very seriously! But I want to enjoy the fact that they beat the Cowboys for at least another day or so!
