Gotta give the dbs a break.  Facing the #1 scoring offence and mvp in situations that dont benefit the defense.

These young guys should be prepared by the season starter and atleast be serviceable.

On the flip side cam is going to destroy the league this year.  We are going to beat people up on offense.

It is true that OTAs, and Mini Camps are set up for failure by the CBs. Which is why, in normal years, rookies are brought along slowly. You don't want to mess to much with their confidence by letting them be abused. Let them take their time, and learn the game as they grow. But...this is not a normal year. These kids are going to get their baptism sooner rather than later. They will get lots, and lots, of personal attention, more than a rookie usually gets anyway, which should speed their growth. As long as they don't fold under the pressure, they really should be ready to go by the time the Playoffs start.

And yeah!!! Cam being one year better kinda scares me. With KB back, Funchess's growth, and Olsen, we still have one hellofa receiving corp. for Cam to throw to. Add in what Ginn Jr., and Brown, can do, and there ain't no reason on earth for a Panther fan NOT to be excited over the numbers Cam very well could put up. Even in our run first Offense.

Or what IF Hill has actually grasp how to be an NFL WR? Or 1 or 2 of those young TEs can actually give us a solid #2 TE? Or if, Zod forbid, that Byrd character won't let the Panthers pass him over? All of a sudden, we have a whole bunch of targets for Cam. I am giddy with the prospects.

Just think. If our Defense can be in the top ten range. We are going to be real tough to beat. Man it is a great time to reside in Pantherland.

A few more tidbits via Jones & Person.   We've been seeing "Dickson" and "drop" in the same sentence quite frequently it seems.  Given all the extra competition at TE this year, he could be feeling the pressure....

▪  Backup tight end Ed Dickson caught a 20-yard pass from Cam Newton during a one-minute drill. But Dickson later dropped a catchable ball along the sideline during the same drill.

▪  Ealy beat second-year offensive tackle Daryl Williams on consecutive plays during team drills while Williams was playing left tackle, going around the edge with speed. Then on the next play, Ealy jumped offside.

▪  Safety Tre Boston made a great leaping interception down the sideline during team drills. The pass, thrown by Newton, was intended for Funchess.

A bit off-topic, but looks like there's another Panther in the NFL top 100 countdown tonight

I think they're doing #31 - 40, is that correct?

We've had Kalil, Stew, TD & KK.

I'm guessing this week is either J-No (is he counted as a Panther still for this series?) or Greg.

Luke & Cam have to be in the top 20 and hopefully top 10.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
