Watching. They're dominating possession and should be up by two or three, but more goals will come if they continue to hold the ball.

I watched most of it.  From what I saw, New Zealand seemed to be playing with no intensity; they seemed sloppy.  I guess that's a good sign for us though.

So we lost in the quarterfinals, and it was the first time we have not reached the gold medal match in our women's team history.

Just a couple of observations though...

1) is it just me, or does hope solo really suck?  We get far more scoring opportunities on opponents that make their GKs work, whereas she only gets tested MAYBE a handful of times a game and makes stupid mistakes and/or always seems like she is about to give up a goal rather than save it.  She really gets on my nerves.

2) why did we move on from pia sundhagen (sp?)?  Why mess up a good thing?  Apparently, we are winless against her since she has moved on to sweden.

3) the team plays completely different without the finishing threat that abby wambach was.  Those corners and crosses into the box seem like complete "punts" now, for a lack of a better term.  She is missed.

Because she lost. We won the World Cup without her. We just haven't figured out Sweden's bullsh*t defense-all-the-time strategy.

Disagree. The team is better without her. The problem today was Sweden was content to throw 9 people on their side at all times. It's a cynical, unfun strategy.

Sweden won by playing negative football. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. Once again the lack of clinical finishing is the Achilles heel of the USWNT.
