We have traded for Andy Lee from the Browns

I've just about got to disagree here. It looks like across the league, the FB has become the least important position on the field.

And if you have a team with a dominant defense and an offense that sputters out regularly, that punter might be your best shot at winning the field position battle. And field position is the game.

You would say that Nortman or Andy Lee are more important than Mike Tolbert?

As much as I hate to say it, but yeah. Bear with me for just a minute, because I have always been a fan of the fullback position. Brad Hoover was one of the greats.

Imagine that Tolbert gets knocked out in the first quarter of the Superb owl this year. It's a tough defensive team we are up against. He is going to be missed, but we can just move to the jumbo package plays or use Stewie and CAP more in running/blocking/receiving roles. It's going to limit us a bit, but we can make do.. we still have a running game.

Okay, same scenario, same all or nothing game for the big win. Opposing team has a strong defense and the punter gets knocked out in the first quarter. Who do you put in to punt when a drive stalls? How do you flip the field after a 3 and out by our squad? Ever seen a kicker take over for a punter?

The punter might not get much respect, but not having one can kill a team. You've got to have at least a fair to good one to win the battle of field position. Full backs, well, some teams don't even bother anymore.

Haha I never said having NO punter was better than having no fullback. Of course you have to have a punter! But I would say it's impossible to argue that Brad Nortman was more key to our Super Bowl run than Mike Tolbert was.

Put another way, if Brad Nortman goes down Week 1 last year with a torn ACL, it sucks, but you move on pretty quickly. If Mike Tolbert goes down, the Huddle briefly becomes suicidal.

Hue Jackson said Andy Lee's poor effort on punt return coverage Friday night had "nothing to do" with Lee's trade to Carolina on Monday. The Panthers gave the Browns a fourth-round pick in 2018 for Lee. Jackson said it is "probably unheard of" to get a pick that high for a punter.

Just saying that a reliable punter is more vital to a team's success in the modern NFL than a reliable FB is.

Would the last limpdick-dumbfuk that believes/quotes Dave when he says he "doesn't believe in windows" shut out the lights when they leave?

This is about NOW.  This is about the last nuance and Dave knows it.  You fools think he casts his pearls before swine?

When Lee kicks his ass off all year, then does the same in the PO and SB and everyone is waiting in line to swing from Dave's sticks and bones I will bump this thread.

Dave knows what he is doing.  This was a brilliant move.

You negative Nancies need to go over to the Vikings message boards.  At least they have something legit to cry over.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
