That's actually not at all true. Signing a bunch of vets to 1 year contracts, as usual, would be off the books by next year when those contracts are needed. Instead we just have 20 million just sitting there being unused.

do you think the team would be better off in the long run with 1 year rentals in the secondary instead of the rookies getting valuable reps? you think LaRon Landry and whatever bargain bin vets were available w/o spending big $$ would make this team much better than it is now?

my only issue with DG is him not keeping Norman tagged for this year. who else was available in FA this past offseason that we could have gotten?

Let's not be revisionists and let's not pretend we know what everybody was thinking back in ancient history. I'm sure Beason was far down the list of players I was criticizing during the dark ages (09-12) but that's irrelevant at this point.

and as far as Steve Smith is concerned, he has a lot of flaws. As demonstrated freshly off his take on Josh Brown, he categorizes violence as acceptable or not acceptable depending on the recipient. And that I just don't support at all. The best way to curb domestic violence is to reject all violence. If you think that women should not be abused but then you support corporal punishment and you cheer on Danny Reagan shooting the MOTW to death on Bluebloods then you're still part of the problem. I don't know what Smith is like as a parent in his household but it's obvious he condones at least some forms of violence based on those comments and his history punching his teammates.

If we're speaking on a personal level, yeah um Steve Smith definitely has some issues. I'm not going to rehash the whole Lucas incident, obviously beating the hell out of someone just because you feel like it is not representative of quality traits as a human being. This goes into a broader discussion really about sports, and athletes as a whole though. Even throughout the incidents with Smith, he was still a very popular player here obviously. Even Greg Hardy still has people defending him, it's bizarre, but that is an example of the extreme point sports fandom has reached. It's really all downhill from here.

Anyways, as for our current situation record wise, I'm pissed, but I'm trying to be reasonable. There are enough factors at play here to make my head spin. Even with the question marks roster wise from our offseason this year, I cannot stress enough just how nauseating it is to watch our head coach continue to look utterly clueless at best in crucial situations on gameday nearly 6 years into his job.

I think it's starting to change though. I mean you still have people on here that will never evolve into better versions of themselves, and I know that is case with some people on here and that's why I give them so much poo for it. At the same time there's this very weird thing going on all over social media where people are outraging over something in a way that applies to them personally. I literally just read a status update about how Josh Brown is being treated favorably compared to Greg Hardy and Ray Rice because of white privilege.

I just can't get with the argument that a rookie has to play NOW in order to get better.  In the old days, dark ages, or whatever you want to call it, rookies weren't necessarily thrust into starting roles.  They were set loose when they were ready.  Sure, some rookies are ready for the job---most of the time, first and second rounders---but many are not.  Moreover, you can do some young players irreparable damage by throwing them into the fire. So, I believe that all of this he-has-to-play-now attitude for the betterment of the team long term is hugely overblown.

As for bargain bin vets, yes, sometimes they are just what the doctor ordered.  We've seen it as late as last season on our very own 17-2 team.

What do you mean?

Don't bother. He only parrots what he hears. He rarely has an original thought. Take it as entertainment, and move on.

There are a few posters on here that only "bait the hook", they say something controversial, then sit back and watch the carnage.

Well he failed...he didn't value him

He reportedly offered a fair contract to Josh (I've heard $12M-13M per year), Josh wanted to be the highest paid CB in the league. Once Gettleman realized that a long term deal was not possible he let him go.

Would you had paid $75M?

Long-term contract that you never see come to fruition...yes pay the man...

I respect that, I did not want to see Josh go either.

But Gettleman had to think about the team's short and long term future. $12M-$13M if those numbers are correct are really good especially for someone like Gettleman who values the Dline more than the secondary.

It is not just the contract, it is the guaranteed money as well. A lot more goes into it than, "Well he won't see the end, so who cares."

Josh didn't want what we offered. He could have told us right out of the gate. That would have given us time to find a proper replacement. But no. Josh drug it out, trying to get more money out of Gman, which was not going to happen. Sign the tag, or let us know, so we can move on.
