There's a reason why Linebackers constantly have the best "value." They aren't as highly coveted.

At some point you have to put your scouting prowess to the ground and take a player at an important position who may not be on Mel Kiper's Top 5 Players by position list.  You can't just pick the gimmes every year.

Reportedly the 2015 1st round pick was between DJ Humpries & Shaq. Humpries was picked 1 pick ahead of Shaq. If the panthers didn't select the gimmie and picked the tackle who has not lived up to his draft status would you have been happy?

Do you take Poe, Gilmore, Cox over Luke?

lot of OTs over the past few years who Gettleman has vocally supported that haven't panned out.

Humphries, Ogbuehi, every OT that has played for us.

Not really an endorsement.

That wasn't the point I was trying to make. You said that linebackers are gimmie picks and that Gettleman should take more risks OT, DE, etc.

I was asking would you rather miss on a pick or take a sure thing? Because if Gettleman had picked DJ he would have been criticized for it..

What were your thoughts on the Luke pick?

Gettleman didn't pick Luke Kuechly.

Investing significant resources in crucial positions isn't a "risk." Its a necessity. Playing it safe isn't necessarily an antithesis to being "dangerous."

Easy to say when you are not the one in charge of those resources. "Risk" aversion is almost a requisite for a GM. Get too aggressive, and you can pay a stiff price. Like losing the job you worked your entire life for.

Dontari Poe was more of a risk but had great potential.

Fletcher Cox was considered a safe pick at DT

Gillmore was highly touted CB

The panthers had Jon Beason, James Anderson & Thomas Davis at Linebacker.

So why invest in another linebacker if more coveted positions can be addressed?

This isn't about who drafted luke. I'm just showing how flawed your logic is.

lol then you're bring narrow minded. James Anderson sucked. Thomas Davis was probably never going to play again.Jon Beason wasn't far behind.

Need is inherent to value.

James Anderson by default was the panthers best linebacker in 2011. Hurney paid him so he believed in him

Jon Beason coming off a injury was the highest paid ILB in the NFL.

Thomas Davis was Teflon.
