Alabama is #1 in the country in defense. LSU, UGA, and Auburn are in the 13-20 range. The next SEC team on the list? South Carolina at #62. Tenness, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri are all 100+.

Like I said in the other thread, Alabama is head and shoulders over everyone else, including their SEC brethren. The other good SEC teams are good, no doubt about it, but not great compared to the elite teams in other conferences. Once you get past those guys, the rest of the conference is a bunch of JAGs. They need to stop trying to dangle off of Bama's balls and try to claim superiority because they get the pleasure of Saban and his boys kicking their teeth down their throat every year.

The only team that's even put up a challenge to Bama in the last 7 years is Auburn and we can't do it on a regular basis.

(Of course, its tougher to do it when you have to be in the same goddam state with them.  Georgia?  LSU?  Florida?  They fugging have no excuse.)

And, as an aside, if Carl Lawson is available at the top of the 2nd round when we pick, I hope we pick him.

Lawson is probably abgiy who Gettleman will pigeon hole as a 3-4 guy and not even have him on our draft board. I really wish he'd give up on this "scheme fit" obsession he has. Hell, everyone's base D in today's NFL is the nickel package whether you're a 3-4 or 4-3 team. Five DBs has become the base D, so we can all quit squabbling over 4-3 vs. 3-4 because those are sub-packages at this point.

Bring in the beat talent you can get and let your coaches scheme for that talent. Don't opt for lesser talent because you think it's a better fit for your scheme. That's a broken thought process IMO.

Gosh, I hope not.

Lawson has never played LB and is pretty much the same size as Mario Addison.  With NFL coaching and a full-time NFL strength and conditioning program, he'd be fine at DE in a 4-3.
