How would you feel if we took a kicker in round 6 or 7?

The differences are VAST.  A 1st Round beast of a man on a rookie contract where we need many contributors vs an overpriced specialist who has been cut my multiple teams and where we only need one-and where finding a better option is not difficult.

Kickoffs should not even be the objective anymore.  Many kicker can boot it in the end zone these days.  The objective is to pooch inside the 10 and force starting field position inside the 20.

The miss in the Super Bowl followed by the miss in Denver should have been the standing 8 count.  The game in New Orleans was the KO.  All BEFORE week 12.

He didn't have a great 2016. Kickoffs matter more when coverage unit are terrible. If your units are lacking at coverage, the last thing you want to try is that high 10yarder strategy. Not all kickers can average around 80% at touch-backs either. He's still got one of the strongest legs and still a weapon. He even showed he could punt in a pinch too. Not to mention he puts in time at the weight room, other players respect that.

I want Gano cut yesterday.  Thank goodness he was his typical awful self in Tampa allowing us to retain pick 8, but competition and surgery won't all of a sudden make he or anyone else clutch.  Palardy was tendered and was also a highly recruited kicker out of high school and did it at Tennessee.  I trust him in the clutch over Gano.

Honest question- do you remember post kasay and pre gano??

Millions upon millions of jabronies in all walks of life making peanuts put in time in the weight room.  A man making millions to do nothing other than kick a ball gets ZERO brownie points for working out.

I do.  I even remember him shanking an XP in his prime time debut on MNF vs the Eagles in 2012.  It's 2017 and this is a business.  There are better options, on the field and for less $$$.

He doesn't have too, that's why it's respected in a locker room.

If you do, then you're member what a savior gano was. Those where dark times, mare and Medlock....... I just dry heaved. Business is right, but there's also some of options that maybe worse, while you think the opposite.

Golfers don't have to either but Tiger Woods was the best of a generation because he did, with a vengeance.

Kickers are always the last line of defense.  To help the team and to protect their own well being, they should workout.

It's not about the field. It's about sharing pain and sweat in efforts to form a bond amongst pros that have to lift. Comradery my friend.

Yeah and Adam Vinatieri was mobbed by his teammates who respected him greatly after beating us in the Super Bowl.  They then let him go for a rookie from Memphis named Stephen Gostkowski.

We either want to be great or we don't.  Here's hoping it's the former.

I don't think Gonzalez will be there in the 5th.  He's accurate and has a powerful leg.  Someone will scoop him up no later than the 3rd or 4th round.  He's what Tampa hoped Aguayo was last year.  And with extra points not being such a gimme any more, a reliable kicker like him is worth a mid-round pick (we saw last year how a kicker can win or lose games for you, so their value is legitimate).

Using a 4th on a kicker is borderline for me, but if Gettleman wants him, I think that's where he'll have to take him.  although a lot will depend on who is available.  If all that is available are guys the team projects as depth, then it would be worth taking a reliable power kicker in the 4th (assuming the team is ready to move on from Gano).  Think about how many games we lost by three or less points, and tell me someone that can consistently make FG's from deep wouldn't give us an extra win or two.
