Drafting ANY form of talent on offense or defense, helps Cam. How many years did Peyton waste putting up ridiculous numbers because he had to because his defense couldn't stop a highschool team from scoring? Not to mention that Peyton didn't win Superbowl 50, his defense did.

For rounds 1-3 of DG's drafts:

2013 - DT  DT  n/a

2014 - WR  DE  OG

2015 - LB  WR  OT

2016 - DT  CB  CB

7 out of 11 (64%) picks on Day 1 and Day 2 since 2013 have been defense.

6 out of 8 (75%) of Round 1 and Round 2 picks since 2013 have been defense.

3 out of 4 (75%) of Round 1 picks since 2013 have been defense.

The comparative talent on the defensive side of the ball compared to the offense isn't even close.  The ONLY thing that has hidden that deficit of talent over the years has been the overflowing, excess talent of the QB taking a red-headed step-child NFL beating in order to cover up the deficit of talent on the offense and the deficit of brain-power of the head coach and the offensive coordinator.

Last year, that cup no longer runneth'ed over.

Its time to upgrade the damn offense.

Just started watching after having been in a meeting for the past 3 hours.

1) exciting that college football is developing VERSATILE players.

2) Loves having 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds.

Made me think:

1. Could suggest an interest in a player like McCaffrey

2. Could mean Dave is not going to easily give up any of these picks.  (Though of course one of the benefits of having so many early picks is having trade capital.)

"Get the player that you want.  Don't worry about perception."

I really like this.  To me, if there's a guy that fits what you need to do and most people think he's worth a #15 pick, but you're picking #8, go ahead and take him.

Joe the moron "any drop off at DE after Garrett or Thomas?"

GMan "not really", and, not only that, but I have to always look to the future as well.

Barnett continues to haunt and lurk in the weeds and is certainly a "take at 15, take at 8" candidate.  :)

I know the Huddle would probably have a meltdown but I wouldn't mind double dipping at DE considering our starting DEs are 37 and 31 going into the season.

No.  We just need one GOOD young DE this year that we don't have to pay for 5 years.  If we get one in round one that's it, and can address it next year again on days 2 and 3.

From what I gather it looks like offense will take a backseat again.

Yeah, other than RB, he seems to be focused on the defensive positions.  He seemed a little bit disinterested / unenthusiastic when asked about the TEs, though he did say it's a good group with "all flavors," but somehow it sounded a bit flat to me.

So far (I'm at 25 minutes in of the 34 minutes, having trouble with my internet, so will have to try again later), there's been very little mention at all re: WRs.

This may be the most interesting comment I've heard by DG so far:

In talking about round 1 - 4 picks, he says they focus on "what might make him fail" "you expect those guys to be good"

"But in the later rounds it flips.  For the later rounds 5 - 7, you're looking at what might be special, what extra does he have that might help him crack the 53."

Really really interesting stuff.

To me the most telling part was about the DEs. There's not much of a drop off after Garret and Thomas. To me sounds like a DE with the 2nd pick.

Question for you all.  When Dave was talking about DEs fairly early on, he started to talk about the smaller 3-4 type guys.  But it wasn't clear to me that he finished his thought.

Did any of you follow what he might be alluding too there?  I know some folks have questioned whether Barnett fits us.  Could Dave be hinting that a guy like Barnett is on our board?

very concerning to me....I've also been concerned about the TE's and S's since you pointed out that our meetings have been with the elites and the later rounders.
