Geoff Schwartz - how to pick a great NFL lineman

While I agree with the premise of the article, I have one question about the teams he mentioned. Agree on most, but in what way is Ohio St. running a "pro-style" offense? Not arguing the results of their players. Just that their system is far from similar to the others.

Also, Alabama OL really hurt this theory, to a degree. Still valid points he made.

I am happy with our OTs espically Daryl Williams , we should draft a OT in the mid to late rounds.

Getting a true inline TE will help the OL a lot more with ability to block and stretch the defense.

I'm a bit nervous about our tackle situation. Oher is still a mystery if he's going to be able to come back and perform and the jury is still out on Kalil. I have high hopes that both will be ready and able, hopefully at the top of their form. I think Williams can perform well at RT, but he is still learning, in my opinion.

I can't disagree in the least with you about an inline TE, it is a need that should be addressed sooner rather than later. And it should be someone that can slide in and take over when Olsen is ready to call it a career (let's hope that is still a few years down the road). The quality of TEs in this class would make it a good year to go ahead and make a big pick.

    • The Vikings beat the Lions with three (3) net passing yards. Max Brosmer completed 9/16 attempts for 51 yards but got sacked 7 times for 48 yards in the process. They rushed for 158 yards and their D forced 6 turnovers.
    • You are dictating a ‘settle’. Like you can only have one, you can’t have both. Fine if you  can only have one, it isn’t the worst choice. But it is settling by nature because there are people with both.  It is simple, we have limited ourselves by choosing a player who has narrower margins for error than guys with the traditional QB physical attributes that people came to so highly value. And some people are happy about that.  Truth has always been that we made it harder on ourselves than it had to be. As Parcels said, he needs to walk on water. That is expecting a lot. And we now have to feed that beast..    there is a fundamental divide here that will never resolve. Even if he elevates his play.
