The final shot shows an old Sam from behind writing the Song of Ice and Fire.  He finishes as the camera pans around and from the front you see GRRM.  He smiles and says, "ha, and people said I would never finish."

My season 8 theory everyone dies and the show comes around full circle with the story starting off about Jon Arryn's death but in the end his son Lord Robin of the Eyrie  is the last man standing and rides into King's Landing to take the Iron Throne to no opposition now stronger than ever because of his prolonged tit suckling into such a high age the true prince who was promised. 

Im just playing but still its gonna end up something non traditional none of us see coming.

So apparently we won't be seeing the final season anytime soon because they are working on making a prequel ready to go when GOT ends... damn bloodsuckers we just wanna see the end of GOT.

I dunno about that still. Originally, the rumors were that we might not get S8 until 2019, but they're already in pre-production/production afaik. I think that means we'll still get it next year probably.

If I had to guess, I would think they would wrap shooting in March or April, and we'd get the final season of 6 episodes somewhere in the window of late August - early October 2018. Ideally, they would probably want to start Labor Day weekend. That would have the final episode airing at or around the same week TWD premiered, and they could choose to compete with them that weekend or to be done before it happens. Getting done by the end of October, one would think, would allow them to get the DVDs on the shelves by Xmas 2018.

The only possible delay and rumored push back to 2019 I could see happening would be if GRRM is close to finishing both his last books, but I doubt that happens. All evidence supports that he's pretty much washed his hands of this particular show at this point, and it seems at times HBO doesn't care to wait for the books.
