Panthers.com - Examining why Panthers parted ways with Dave Gettleman

I understand what the article is saying, but the logic, if everything written is true, doesn't make sense.

Turner's value is lower, not higher, than it was following the 2015 season. He was all-pro in 2015. In 2016 he was average. This is the perfect time to get an extension done cheaper and just hope he returns to his 2015 self.

Same with KK. His value was at his peak after 2015... or at least it should have been. But we wanted, he had a less impressive season, which means in theory the contract we gave him should have been less.

Addison is different, but it's not like he broke the bank anyway.

I'm not buying this. That, or I'm reading it wrong.

Gettleman was fired in my speculation because he got in a pissing contest with Richardson over the direction of the team. When Hurney got fired, Richardson said  that top management was taking more control over the personnel decisions and any GM would have to tow the line. I think as Gettleman grew in the job so did his ego and hubris. I think Richardson was unhappy with the Josh decision and told him to not make that mistake again. I think he was playing hardball with Davis and Olsen and Richardson told him to stop.  Gettleman said I need to do it my way and if you don't like it then fire me. Richardson obliged. Richardson is in win now mode and is running the team. There can only be one big ego at the top and Gettleman was not it....
