This game went pretty much how I expected it to go. I told my buddy before the game that the Loins had the spunk, mojo and heart to make it a half of football, but ultimately they would not be able to play the full game with the Bears.

I don't care how much good ink gets put to paper about how nicely Nick Roach has filled in at MLB and whatever, but he was getting abused in the passing game over the middle in the 1st half- the area where Urlacher was so dominant. That's truly what distinguishes Brian from so many other MLB's- his size and range.

Random thoughts...

The running game looked passable. Aside from 2 big runs, it wasn't a lot to write home about, IMO. It played it's role. Cutler's INT at the end of the half was a crap shoot, even though it still shows up in the stat box. Hester and Knox both dinged up- that's no good. I still think our defense gives up too much stuff through the air, but it seems like all defenses are these days... Olsen, who I love, seems to be a guy that I can count on to drop a gimme per game. Cutler continues to impress the hell out of me. His pocket presence is fantastic and 1 run he had today after getting pressure simply amazed me (I mentioned to my buddy that Orton wouldn't have made it 2 steps). Twas nice to see Gould nail one from 50+ yards(52 yards), so that's no longer the caveat to be applied to him. Brad Maynard looked like a sniper punting the ball! One out at the 4, one out at the 2. Nice. I have to give Dave Toub credit- it seems no matter who you give him, he's going to make them one hell of a special teams player and produce one hell of a special teams unit. It's about time they started acting like it today. Last and definitely not least, the Bears D line is back, baby. Ogunleye looks like a new man in there.

...and Orton seems to be what they need there in Denver. He style irritates the crap out of me...I mean him thowing deep is 15 yards.

And I'm very happy for Kyle for that. He looked good today, efficient and looked like he was having fun. That team has a lot of mojo right now too... we'll find out soon enough whether they're contenders or pretenders... Likewise for the Bears.

Indeed. They're never around when the player prospers... just wait until he has a bad game- they'll come out of the woodwork.

I've never liked the guy but I commented in a thread a couple days ago on the Panthers section that the trade looks good for both sides right now.

How is Hester doing at receiver? I liked that move at the time...curious how it's working out.

He's also injured now, the extent of the shoulder injury remains to be seen since they are on a bye week so the info likely will not be known for some time.

I maitain my opinion that they converted a potential once in a lifetime talent at KR in order to make him a mediocre WR.

Foolish, IMO.

I think Cutler is a solid QB. Durable, big arm, and now understands that he can get Ws on this team by playing within the system.

The D is still suspect in my book. Due to injury and personnel.

Speaking of injuries. Oiy. This team looks like a MASH unit. Bye couldn't have come at a better time.

I'm happy with the ST and O. The D still needs to prove they can cover people and not commit the stupid penalty. Lots of stupid penalties. The Oline is also on my list of questions, but seems to be coming together a bit better.

I did not expect 3-1 at this point.

Pleasantly surprised.

Again though, I won't be fully sold on Cutler until he proves that he can consistently handle adversity (beyond just one bad game). Outside of the Rams and Lions, the back half of the Bears schedule looks pretty harsh, especially with the defense banged up.

Still, kudos to the coaches for their approach with him. What amuses me right now is the notion that Ron Turner and Lovie Smith are doing a better job of developing Cutler than supposed QB guru Mike Shanahan did.

I am with Scot on this one with Cutler.

He is playing the way the Bears need him to play. Within the system. I for one did not think that he could do it. They have calmed him down in the pocket, and not let him go nuts out there with his ball security.

I am glad for the Bears that they are winning, but I do think that they would have the same record with or without Cutler. JMO

      I’ve turned from a staunch detractor to him now having my 100% support. 1. He turned the worst o line in the league in to a top 10 unit in 1 offseason. Incredible.  2. Contracts to Horn and Hubbard. Reward your ride or die homegrown talent. Neither contract was way out of line for market value.  3. All of the talent he has added are intelligent, high floor types who love competing.  4. He understands that an org lives and dies off of the draft. This was the very first draft that I can remember since… ever where the franchise didn’t make a boneheaded trade and/or waste a high pick on a project tweener. No. It was Tepper sitting by almost completely mum, watching Dan orchestrate Dan’s draft…. picking intelligent high floor dudes from big name schools who showed up to play every Saturday and loved competing. It just felt right.  5. He has shown no reservation in cutting bait on guys that he sees as not having what it takes. This is really big one. It’s what the good teams do. Without it, you get the ‘coach’s guys’. Complacency. Stagnation. All these dudes needs to watch their backs.  I see him building a young core who have displayed NFL level ability. For the first time in a really long time it feels like the captain of the ship actually knows what he is doing.

      Jake Guentzel was a pretty elite  player and he fit us very well. And we’ve only had two offensive elite forwards under Rod. That’s Jake and Miko. Sample size is pretty small and I feel like your arguments biased. We are going to get an elite player or two In the off-season, we can be the judge of that this time next year.

      Defense is overall bottom 5 without a doubt.  We literally do no have any depth on any position for the defense.  We are once again a couple of injuries away from being complete garbage again.   I assume next draft will be defense heavy.
