Gruden was asked about 2 receivers, Steve & Moss. He said if you grab Smith 10 best highlights its better than any player 10 best highlights. And the other dude told him to hold on and challenged that

But honestly though, Steve Smith's highlights are the best among receivers imo. The things this guy does after catching the ball are speechless.

really if you watch dwill and smith highlight plays, they obviously are able to using amazing god given gifts on the field

dwill looked like jim brown (i think that's his name) at times last year, while i've seen smith on multiple occasions use a 40inch vertical on a stop/curl route to get a ball and i've seen him knock dbs down with one arm, break gang tackles, etc

they also both have tremendous speed. all this at 5'9". not bad at all. as for getting the highlight reel, the only other player that would be as electrifying would be Owens in his 49ers days, he used to have a lot of plays where he'd be in open space making juke moves. Moss's highlights are too many jump ball fly routes, he's great but he's 6'4 and it's not as spectacular as seeing a 5'9 guy do it.

He's probably right about Smitty having the best highlights but that doesn't necessarily make you the best player.

yeah, he didn't say smith was either.

jerry rice was the best receiver ever, and he didn't seem that spectacular at all. the underappreciated art of seperation and route running indeed

Probably because he coached a divisional rival and had to game plan for Smith for so many games. Gruden does seem to stick up for the NFC South.

I was thinking about that as well. Gruden sees the talent we have and can't keep himself from gushing about our players. It reminds me of how much talent we really have on this team yet we started 0-3 and look extremely unprepared on game day. It is such a waste - IMO anyway.

Still, if he was saying receiver I won't argue. Smitty is sort of like the Barry Sanders of receivers. He is amazingly elusive (and surprisingly powerful and scrappy) and many of us will probably end up questioning how much better he would have been playing with a great QB...much like people always ask 'How good would Barry Sanders have been if he played on good teams and had a good line?"
