He's gotta start declining sometime, this may be the year.

Can already see it happening. If we were smart we'd trade his ass ASAP. Get a 1st and a 3rd from a team looking to make a run at the Super Bowl this year. Of course it'd be nice if we had some young guys waiting in the wings ready to step in but what the hell, you can't have everything I guess.

yes you are right...but he played none of the pre-season and has been limited because of his knee problem.

excuses excuses...just cant get to the fact that smith is starting to decline...just makes me wonder what in the hell we are going to do once he isn't doing what he used to do.

Seriously, this is what separates the good franchises from the great ones. The great (AKA ruthless) teams see what's happening and ship out their once-great players to the Redskins/Raiders of the world for a buttload of draft picks right before they completely fall off and have zero trade value. Only a few teams really do this though, most of them will hang on to guys past their prime because of loyalty and hope they turn things around.

That's not true. It seperates the ruthless ones from the rest of the NFL.

Not many teams will just wave goodbye after they send one of their greatest ever players packing. Most teams find a role for them in the team, offer them a contract equivalent to that new position, if it's rejected THEN they ship them out.

Look at the Pats. They are awash with old vets who just know how to play the game. Their third down team are all intelligent vets who just know how to get open. The Colts held onto Harrison, the Steelers still have Ward. Wrs can go for a long time. As they age the great ones learn how to use other tools to make plays.

    • I think you should see the OP for pretty big reasons why that is a completely incorrect take given this is a Dave Canales team.
    • TMac is a good player and would've been the right pick if our QB could throw a ball farther than 40 yards. For this team's current build (run first, game management passing attack) and the fact that our TE's are laughably bad - the five on our roster have combined for less than 600 yards total, with 3 TDs - Warren should've been the pick.
    • If anyone feels like they can't have a conversation about Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career maybe assess why and how these conversations end this way instead of looking to shoot the messenger. Why is it okay to label anyone else on the team or coaching staff trash? Folks on the huddle and across the fanbase on social media have fully thrown anyone and everyone including rookie 8th overall pick TMac fully under the bus multiple times this season. But some of you guys apparently expect a pat on the back because Bryce Young successfully evaded a few potential sacks while Tyler Shough got consumed by our pass rush throughout the game and still had a superior performance. The state of this division is hilariously mediocre at best. Bryce Young is the only player on this roster who is allowed to have the lowest bar possible yet we have invested the most resources in him. It's lunacy.
