Why Isn’t Christian McCaffrey Panning Out?

Well, Einstein, McCaffery "catches those passes out of the backfield" just like every other NFL running back.

Not as easy as you think Junior. See "every other NFL running back" especially those that are drafted as high as McCaffery was don't really get targeted like a wide receiver...so not sure what you would expect...for him to lead the league in YAC like a top 10 pick

A simple understanding of football will provide your answer... McCaffery isn't being "targeted like a wide receiver"...he is being targeted like a running back...his average catch is 1.65 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

You don't understand what I'm saying....McCaffery has been targeted A whopping 59 times....that's being targeted like a wide receiver like I said:

And this has NOTHING to do with yards after catch or where a receiver is targeted, bright boy.

Just for instance, Antonio Brown's average catch comes 9.8 yards past the line of scrimmage, while McCaffery's comes 1.65 yards past the line of scrimmage. So despite being targeted 25 times more than McCaffery and having 8 more receptions, he has fewer YAC than McCaffery.

McCaffery is NOT being used like a wide-receiver in the passing game...he is being used like a running back. And basically everything he gets in terms of yardage is his own doing.

If McCaffrey went to the Saints he'd probably be doing similar to Kamara or even better. He would've fit that team, coaches , and system alot better .

at least NO didn't have to spend a #8 pick to get a RB and still ended up w/ Lattimore and Kamara

God damn I think just how many options were on the board at the time CMC was drafted.. Njoku, Howard, Latti, etc.

What an overrated mother fuger.

Edit - Gettleman is who I am referring too. I like McCaffrey, but he was a horrible choice for the current staff.  Will never sniff his potential as long as Rivera coaches this team.

Ahh name calling...you were a easy win...Please go back and read i said he was being TARGETED like a wide receiver not being used like one....and It has EVERYTHING to do with yards after the catch you boob. Brown has fewer YAC because he usually BEATS his guy and they usually end up tackling him...it's like IDP fantasy you want to corners that get beat because they are usually tackling  so the YAC is lower for WRs. Look at the YAC leaders and they are all pretty much Running back because they catch out of the backfield then run for yards after the catch...those yards add up even if McCaffery goes down after one hit.

I am not going to argue silly semantics with you. It is a waste of time. You did not say McCaffery was being target "as much" as a wide receiver. You said he was being targeted "like a wide receiver" during a discussion of YAC.

I was talking actual football, not fantasy and not Madden.

And McCaffery remains number 2 in the League in YAC and that includes, obviously all running backs. That's pretty good for a "bust". Your point remains a mystery.

Your not carefully reading what I'm writing or comprehending it...my exact post stated "those that are drafted as high as McCaffery was don't really get targeted like a wide receiver"  not targeted "as much" like you think i wrote..... where you got that from I do not know. This discussion isn't about the YAC it's why McCaffery isn't panning out and that is because in my opinion he is a slot WR and a system RB at Stanford seems like it won't translate to the NFL.

Again like I'll say not for you but for anyone else that reads this since your satisfied with McCaffery being 2nd instead of 1st in YAC when he has had more catches (44) than the actual leader Chris Thompson (only 23 catches).

When you take a RB in the top 10 you expect him to be in top of the leagues in yards after contact not yards after catch. Where did I say he was a "bust"? He's probably just not a NFL RB at this point and was a HUGE reach at 8th overall.

Im really sick of hearing we need to "be more creative" or "find more creative ways to get _____ the ball"

NO HOW ABOUT SOME COMMON SENSE PLAYS

for fugs sake just run a normal pitch or stretch play outside for cmc. doesn't have to be some fancy reverse fake spike flee flicker end around. Creative doesn't equal better. Use common sense. Play to your players strengths

    • Regardless, Bryce Young would have fell no lower than 3rd overall.  My overall point still stands.  Teams miss on QBs all the team.  Do we deserve criticism for that?  Absolutely. However again the same mistake we made, another team (regardless of the team) would have made in the top 3.  Because finding a QB is hard and teams overdraft QBs every year.
    • This get parroted and parroted and parroted when in reality you simply have no idea if that is true, what we do know if the texans wanted him they could have moved up with chicago and then chicago would have traded again with either us or indy
