Thoughts on Jake Delhomme this season?

Jake is an average QB who needs a better OLine in front of him. It's unrealistic to expect anything better until that happens, no matter the QB...

We should have tried to find a guy for the future, at least, on the roster by now.. But this is where we are. He is sufficient, but has happy feet when under pressure. this year, there's been a lot of pressure. And absolutely no existence of a run game. This results in bad plays, no matter who is behind center.

he needs one more weapon. Moose and Smith aren't enough. Playcalling hasn't helped the way the OL has been playing. Need some quick slants and plays to help him out. I think Carolina really just needs to put it all on the line and run some 3 WR sets and force Moore/Jarrett to prove they are the next Colbert and need to go. All we can do is assume they are another Colbert and suck....b/c they aren't really given the chances to show anything on the field. The two WR sets aren't gonna cut it w/ Smith getting the attention and Moose being Moose. 5 years ago that may have been enough but as a collective who those 3 aren't who they use to be (Smith excluded).

I think he's been playing better but as I have said before he does not make things happen. He reacts to what's going on the field rather than actively trying to change the game. He's always had faults but there is something particularly different about him than in years past and I think that's it. I cannot stand the fact that misses wide open targets. I understand that it happens sometimes but it gets pretty damn blatant with Jake alot.

We can blame our under performing offensive line, or the WR's not getting open. But if we had a top 10 QB we could easily be 3-1 right now and most of our offenses problems would be masked. Good QB's make things happen, they audible, they spread the ball around, they make plays.

But I do think Jake has moxy. That part of him still isn't lost. I think he stuck in a place right now where he wants to play smart(especially after the Philly game), and a place where he wants to chuck it, force the throw and give his guy a chance. So he'll have to get his confidence back. The problem though is that since he doesn't see open targets, it's letting teams focus on Smith.

Right now the pressure of the offense is all on Smith. Muhammad cannot help him anymore. We need more speed at #2. Maybe we could try Kenny Moore at #2, or even get Goodson involved(god forbid Fox). Hell I'd give DJ a shot to haul it in if he's got 1 on 1.

Like many people I LOVED Jake in 2003. The last couple of years, maybe even the last 3 years, he has regressed quite a bit. Not sure if it's all his fault or not but ultimately the QB gets the blame, whether he deserves it or not, when things aren't going right offensively. I like Jake's desire to win. It's obvious he leaves everything on the field. I think he really does try, but his skills aren't as good as they used to be, and to be fair they weren't great to begin with. With everything said, Jake has probably been our best QB overall for the franchise...with Beurlein (if I misspelled that, sue me) being a close second.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
