So Butker misses a kick that loses the Chiefs the playoff game. Graham Gano misses two field goals in 17 games and the Huddle has a meltdown.

Sometimes, logic defies this place. I feel like if a proposal was made that we could sign John Kasey as long as he only misses 10 field goals versus Graham Gano who only misses 1, you all would take missing 10.

Butker is a rookie, he's been comparable in overall stats to Gano, and he is way cheaper

Gano had a great year, but Butker had a damn good year for a rookie Kicker and he was a super cheap option, younger, and will theoretically only get better with more experience.

Butker went 38/42 for 90.5% with a 300K salary

Gano went 29/30 for 96% with a 3.3 Mil Salary

You can't sit there and tell me that that 6% was worth that 3 million dollar difference when that money could have been used toward locking up a guy like Star or Norwell for another season.

Again, Gano had a hell of a year, not taking anything away from him in that regard, but in the long term it seems like the smarter financial play would have been for Butker.

If Cam Newton can be expected to carry a WR core full of practice squad players into the playoffs on top of having to lead the team in rushing, there's no reason to make excuses for Gano missing chip shots. It's crazy how people can rationalize mediocrity in one breath and then wonder aloud why we've yet to reach a milestone like back to back winning seasons. Welp...

I don't give a fug about back to back winning seasons if we're making the playoffs three times in a row. I'll take three playoffs in a row over 9-7, 9-7, and 9-7.

How many games did we win by one score or less? I don't have the statistics in front of me but you could easily make an argument that the 6% difference is worth the difference in salary. When the difference in most games is a matter of a missed field goal, a single penalty, or any other event; the margins are far slimmer than 6%.

I understand what you're saying, but I also understand why others wanted to keep Butker.

For whatever reason Ron would NOT trust Gano to kick anything over 50 yards fthis season. It was frustrating especially considering Gano has arguably the strongest leg in the league. It felt like if you don't trust your vet to do it, why bother with the vet in the first place? He only had 1 attempt at 50+ all season (he missed it). That's it.

Butker had 5 and made 4.

You don't pay a kicker as much as we did and not utilize him. At least that's my reasoning. He's payed like one of the best in the league and we aren't trusting him like he is.

Economically, Butker made more sense for the team last season and moving forward. But now that Gano went 96% with only one miss, We can't get rid of him as he's "earned" his salary. We had a younger, cheaper, and comparable option on the team and we let him walk in order to keep an older, more expensive guy.
