Big GM news for another team

Other teams have been trying to lure Eric DeCosta away from the Ravens for years. He's always stayed loyal to Baltimore with the understanding that he would inherit Ozzie Newsome's job when he retired. Looks like that time is finally coming.

I was starting to wonder if Ozzie would ever retire. I know there were rumors about him becoming the AD at Bama some time ago but after those went away I figured he would be with the Ravens for another 5+

My understanding is that The Rooney Rule actually does offer an exception if you have an established successor already in place with the team.

Of course it is. Hell, so is the Rooney Rule. You're either a legit candidate or you're not. You're not going to go from box checking Rooney Rule candidate to hired because your interview was THAT awesome. It's just PC bullshit.

Before anyone asks, no that doesn't apply to interim GMs.  The Panthers are still subject to the rule.
