Pure Speculation: Barkley to Bucs?

Follow me here... everyone is talking about the top of the draft going QB-QB-QB, but if I’m a team that thinks they’re only one special player away from the next level - like ATL a few years back when they went up to get Julio - I’m not just going to sit there and let Cleveland get their QB at 1 and their RB at 4.

Tampa fits that bill. They think they’re close. They’re desperate. They’re strong at a number of other positions on both sides of the ball. Just cut Doug Martin. Why not move up?

And dropping to 7 isn’t that severe a drop for the Giants if it means picking up some value in the second and third this year and next year.

After the Jets surprised everyone by moving up before they even know who they’re going to get, this has a feeling of “the race is on” to get NY to trade that second pick.

Don't know how anyone would think Tampa is close, their biggest issue is under center.  Jameis isn't the answer for them imo, he makes very bad decisions with the football and a RB would only help so much when Winston is airing out the ball to the other team.

True.  but getting Barkley could also cut down the number of passes he throws in a game

And when they sell the farm for the number 2 pick, and the browns take Barkley at one who's the pick?

I think it depends on other trades if teams start to move up to grab  Qbs 1-4 and the Bucs get a chance to  trade up to 5 it may be worth it

The coach and GM who are tied at the hip to Jameis and have given him a ton of weapons... those guys think they're close, and if they don't get to the next level soon, they're all out. But if they had major concerns about Winston, they wouldn't have invested in pass catchers - they would have invested in a new QB.

And I don't think you're being fair by saying he's not the answer. His numbers aren't that bad. A good running back would really help him out.

Then you take the consensus best defensive player, Chubb.

The Bucs lost six games by five points or less, plus another by six in overtime. If you have an all-world RB you have to like your chances to turn around those games.

Of course, he could bust, but if you're staring down the barrel of another losing season and getting fired like Dirk and the GM are... he's probably worth the risk.
