David Newton profiles Ben Navarro

Mr. Scot

Found this noteworthy too...

It is unknown how many minority partners Navarro would want if chosen, but those close to him believe it will be a small number.

We were first introduced to Navarro by Jourdan Rodrigue. At the time, she suggested that he could buy the team outright. Newton makes it sound like he's going to have a small group of partners.

Can't help but wonder if any of our current minority owners will be included in that at some point. Kind of hard to figure how the legality of that works though. You can't exactly sell a team to yourself.

Quite possibly more intriguing though: That Navarro and Jerry Richardson have mutual friends.

Someone else had mentioned that on here before.

Technically I suppose you could say that Richardson and David Tepper have mutual friends too (i.e. the Rooneys).

I don't think its tinfoil at all.  I think its pretty clear to everyone reading the tea leaves that Navarro has left into first with no indication of being ousted.  This article is either a nudge by some folks in the know or a writer wanting to be on the right side of the new owner.

People are saying they are now comfortable with Navarro but I didn't really see any issue other than his business which is less slimy than what a lot of NFL owners engage in actively.

I think the guy who said it wouldn't have gotten this far if there was really that much disapproval is probably right.

I do believe the NFL really wanted David Tepper to own the Panthers, and some of the "disapproval" might just be grumbling that the guy they hoped for isn't likely to win it.

Can't really blame Navarro for that though. If anybody is to blame for that, it's Tepper.

I think that might be the point.

Our buddy Roaring Riot has pointed out that the NFL can be somewhat controlling when it comes to the release of information. It makes me wonder if a pro Navarro article is a sign of things to come.

That's all speculation, of course. Maybe I just need to loosen my tinfoil.

This article could also be the result of the fact that Navarro hired a PR firm shortly after starting the bidding process to help his image right? Don't recall hearing that Tepper or Kestenbaum have done that.

It's a possibility. The guys being quoted in the article aren't PR guys, but PR guys certainly could have pointed Newton in their direction.

That said, the article isn't all complimentary. The one guy in there doesn't sound like a big fan.

Side Note: Let's say we have Ernie Accorsi in house again. Jerry Richardson would be out of the picture of course, but after what happened with Dave Gettleman I kind of wonder what Jerry Richardson's relationship with Accorsi is like right now.

Doubt it would have an effect on what happens next, but it intrigues me.

Ben will have to use up his entire net worth to buy the Panthers. I do not like that at all. I don't want a owner who has to morgage his worth in total to buy the team. He will be trying to make up his loss right away. Meaning higher prices all around.

NFL rules don't allow for someone to purchase a team if they have to basically spend everything they have.

For him to be seriously considered at this point, Navarro would likely already have presented what his plan would be to buy the team. And given that from what we know he's placed the highest bid, I'd have to think that plan is already in place.

Newton also indicated that he'll likely have a group of minority buyers along with him, albeit a small group. Will be interesting to find out who's in that bunch.

I know but that's why I'd want a guy that could do it all if he wanted. Like Tepper.
