What Do You Think About Steve Comments

It amazes me how little many of you actually understand about the Panthers and how this organization operates. Jake Delhomme WILL be our QB for at least one more year and John Fox, no matter what, isnt going anywhere. New QB....new coach.........all wishful thinking. Sorry guys.

Yea ok... Fox contract is up next year. Whoever comes in next wont have Jake as their QB, no matter how much money we gave him. Then Hurney might roll too. Hurney without Fox, doubt it

People that are bashing Steve Smith can go f themselves. Seriously. You're an f'ing idiot if you think that 89 is even 1% of why we're 2-3 and have such a bad team when compared to last season.

Psssst...he wasn't being serious. 89 has been overthrown every season he's been in the league. It's not impossible when you have such a horrible passer like Delhomme.

I know, hence the use of the word "joke," in "they used to joke." I'm just saying, '03-'06 or '07, Many balls Jake threw looked like they were going to land about 10 yards in front of him, yet, Smitty would burst away from the defender and get underneath it for the catch.

He just doesn't seem to have that now.

Also, I think a great deal falls onto Davidson's shoulders. When was the last time we've seen the famous "X-Clown" route? Probably before Henning left. All the routes Smitty has ran this season appear simpler than plays kids draw up in backyard football.

The INT to Jackson for a TD was a terrible read/throw by Delhomme, but it was also terribly designed, b/c having Moose come across to Smitty's side lead the safety down to either of those throws. It was retarded.

If you want to blame Steve Smith for this team's problems, feel free to do so AS LONG AS you're going to blame Jake Delhomme, Muhsin Muhammad, Dwayne Jarrett, the special teams, the offensive line, the special teams, Nick Hayden, Damione Lewis, Charles Johnson, Tyler Brayton, Charles Godfrey, Chris Gamble, Richard Marshall, Dante Wesley, Quinton Teal, Chris Harris, John Fox, Marty Hurney, Jeff Davidson, Ron Meeks, and Danny Crossman first.

Why did Steve say "I'm going to enjoy Christmas?"

Maybe he thinks Davidson will be gone at the end of the season?

Funny part is we dont play nor are we done with the season by the 25th. IDK maybe there has been a time table in place we dont know about. Or that might be the day they fire the staff.

You're off the mark though with what the true problem is even though I'm sure you didn't mean to be. If Jake Delhomme didn't overshoot 89 by 10 to 15 yards on his deep balls, this wouldn't even be an issue. Blaming Smith for not having Usain Bolt speed instead of blaming Jake for not even being a mediocre quarterback isn't fair.

And you can blame Davidson for the playcall, but Jake is ultimately the one that throws the ball.

So I guess Smith deserves a fraction of the blame for the overthrows and Davidson deserves a small percentage of blame for the pick 6, but the one that was far and away responsible for both of those was Jake Delhomme. Focusing on those that were practically non-factors in those plays not succeeding is missing the mark.

Maybe he thinks Davidson will be gone at the end of the season?

Gantt quoted Steve from 2006:

It was his least productive day since Dec. 24, 2006, when he was shut out during the Wildcat game at Atlanta, when they only threw seven times.

He was asked after that game if he was surprised not to be more involved, and he simply said: “I don’t know, go ask the coordinator.” Then he headed for the bus, adding: “I’m going to enjoy Christmas.”

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
