What the fuck has John Kasay ever done for us?

Kasay has been a great kicker for about 95% of his career.

Unfortunately the other 5% have been in big game situations, and he's been pretty bad. The two biggest games we've had in the past 5 years have arguably been this Giants game and the Super Bowl, and he had a negative effect on both.

There's not been a regular season game in the history of the league that's been bigger than any playoff game.

Other than the Super Bowl, Kasay has been absolutely money in the playoffs.

So try again.

By the way, I don't see enough people realizing what the conditions were like on that field goal. A 50 yard field goal on the road in the swirling wind is an extremely difficult one to hit. If Kasay couldn't hit it, I doubt there's a kicker in the game right now that could have made it.

Kasay had a huge impact on the Super Bowl. Since then, the only bigger game that we've had that he had a major role in would probably be the win against the Bears in the '05 playoffs. We killed the Giants in the game before and got smacked by the Seahawks the week after.

I think Kasay has been a great kicker for us, but that was a makable kick last night, and he just didn't get it done. Hence that 5% I was talking about.

Oh right, kicking the ball out of bounds in the Superbowl and missing the most important field goal of the entire franchises history.

He's the kicker version of Tony Romo, puts up pretty stats, then chokes when it matters. f*ck you nutthuggers. :banghead:

really? and what the fug did our offense do for kasay? Oh, that's right...force him to kick a 50+ yard kick...that's tough for any kicker.

and this isn't exactly the most important game in franchise history...

He made a 50 yard fg in the Superbowl, and the impact of that out of bounds kick is overstated. New England was going through our defense with ease, an additional 15 yards most likely would not have made a difference.

And for his career, he has hit 20 of 22 fg's in the playoffs.

Wow.

What a thoughtless post.

That kick out of bounds was not overstated. It was huge.

Kasay's been a great kicker for us. But he has not been without fault. Last night was a good example. He should have made that kick.

Well, what kicker, indeed what human is without fault? Unless Jesus becomes our field goal kicker, I don't think we can find anyone without fault.

We will have to agree to disagree about the out of bounds kick.

I don't think 15 yards made a difference.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
