Jimmy Clausen is still trash

The guy came here, was put in a bad situation, did what he could.  Not an NFL talent, didn't complain when Cam got the starting nod, held a clipboard willingly.  Has never thrown shade at anyone in Carolina, just wasn't good enough.

Why so much hate?

Exactly. Like I hated Clausen in college. Partly because fug Notre Dame, partly because of his smug goofy face. I wasn't too enthused when we drafted him and knew it would be difficult to cheer for him.

BUT despite my dislike for him he gets unfairly shat on constantly. He was thrown to the wolves his first year. No rookie was going to succeed on that team. You had lame duck coach John Fox and Richardson bracing the team for a lockout. Clausen was dealt a shitty hand but he did his job and never complained the entire time he was here.

Yeah, he wasn't good, but its not like he was Kerry Collins quitting on the team and being an asshole to everyone. The Clausen hate is unjustified.

lol. People are really defending Jimmy because he is a "good guy." That doesn't take away from him being a trash QB. Other players get flamed for being trash but somehow Clausen is off limits. lol. He is a horrible QB by the way.

Not only is it accurate, it's completely true.

It's plainly obvious that I was talking about 2010. The argument was that the Panthers were competitive when Moore started in 2010.

Here's a look at the games Moore started in 2010:

@ Giants
vs. Bucs
vs. 49ers
@ Rams
vs. Saints

So let's look at the scores of those games:

31-18 loss
20-7 loss
23-20 win
20-10 loss
34-3 loss

Now, let's compare the total scores of those games. Holy hell, what do they add up to be?

Opponents: 125
Panthers: 61

But hey, don't let your stupidity get in the way of a misguided attempt at defending Moore.

To be clear I was using competitive loosely. We were not playoff competitive. I just meant we actually fielded a team with an offense and a defense with Moore. We could actually potentially make use of the weapons we did have like, Goodson, Gettis , and Smitty.  With Clausen, we literally just had a defense, we did literally nothing. Three downs guaranteed to literally go nowhere because we had the most horrid QB in existence. By comparison Moore made them competitive. Chains COULD move, points COULD be scored. Pickles was that bad.

Hated Clausen the player.  Never wanted him drafted to begin with.  Was an obvious dud IMO.

But the dude as a person was solid and WAY better than he was initially perceived coming in. Dude was in a tough spot.  Never once complained.  Never looked to deflect blame.  Handled it all as well as you would want.  Handled Cam coming in on top of him great.  Jimmy the dude was an A+ guy.  Makes it hard to pile on him at this point.

He got a smokin hot wife and NFL money so I also doubt he gives a fug people are talking about him years later

At some point the meathead fan act gets old.

We sucked with either one under center. Moore was good about driving us inside the opponent's 30 and then throwing picks in the end zone. Clausen was afraid to throw downfield because he didn't have the arm to make the throws needed to succeed in Jeff Davidson's offense, for which success is an abstract term anyway.

    • We keep referring to it as Over drafting him like he was really a first round draft pick. We traded up at the end of the first to get him in a deal with Buffalo so that we could grab him and get an extra year on his contract if needed. At the time that sounded like "If he really soars, we can get that fifth year extension automatically". It really probably meant, "We might need five years to really get him up to starting WR speed."  He was basically a second rounder with a potentially meaningless pick as well to pay for those rights. Still, I think that with him we are on the Kelvin Benjamin bubble right now... will he ever be more than just an athlete? Can he really learn to fight and compete for that ball? Can he learn professional routes? Can he handle the fame and more money than he's ever seen in his life? Can he handle all of the pressure a fanbase puts on him? Tough shoes to fill. Not sure I'd want to be in them. I hope he gets it all together soon. A lot, most draftees, can't. Good luck and God bless to the young man. He's got a lot of work to do in a very unforgiving workplace.
    • This is the #1 reason I defend Bryce. Everyone around him is learning on the job, including him. But hey in 3 years we could have a talented offense that grew up together.
    • Nope. No balling out but he could latch on as a backup elsewhere. I still think he would be the weak link on a ridiculously loaded team that would create problems in the Playoff and while facing other really good teams. His limitations are just to much at this level. I have zero fear of playing him in the future. It's a litmus test for the D, granted the D is pretty awful currently so none needed.
