I was thinking the same thing. Interesting how that works out.

It’s a very common theme. I think ATLs 2016 OL didn’t miss a single game.

2015 was only 3 games combined from Kalil and Norwell.

2013 is mostly Amini getting hurt in game 4. Wharton played better.

 2017 was all Ryan Kalil.

Our record with a solid, mostly healthy OL, is pretty reamarkable.

Yes, it was thinking about this that prompted my research.

I think it might be more important to have health and consistency and average talent than elite talent but bad continuity. That's why I hope we can quickly find 5 guys who gel this year and who are healthy...

So what we're all agreed on, is that with Amini out for a while, whoever comes in, should stick in there. Regardless of how bad RR want's to put his favourite O-Line buddy back in?

Yeah, cool look, thanks @KB_fan, but this is a pretty obvious thing. I was going to mention 2016 Atlanta. Their OL was solid but they also had what we had in 2015, a good OL and extremely good health.

The only thing that is an outlier is 2014. You’d think we would have gotten worse as the season progressed but in that case the end was when Turner, Norwell and Remmers got entrenched. Yes, Remmers. As much hate as he got, we were 22-2 with him starting at RT before the Super Bowl. Thank goodness we decided to leave him on an island with Von Miller. We were 3-8-1 with continuity and bad OL and 5-1 with new, much better OL. As much as some on here bash the non-winning division title year, that end of the year run is what became 2015.

I think continuity is the key unless it’s a situation where less talented guys are starting and the switch out exceeds the continuity. In Amini to Norwell, it way exceeded it.

Well said.  Yes, BAD continuity is not a good thing.

There was that terrible losing stretch in 2014 with a new line each week and so many other injuries to fight through, but the effort to keep trying new combos and enduring short-term pain paid off amazingly in the long run, setting the stage for the SB season.

So, we may have to do some experimenting now for a few weeks, but hopefully something gels, even if young players have some growing pains along the way.

Unfortunately, training camp has decided to take a big poo on our o-line health so this year is looking like one of the 5+ lineman combos. There is talk Williams may even be able to come back late this year. I doubt it though.

Yeah and our combo for this year is already not good.

I was encouraged a bit by looking back in 2013.  We began that season with question marks and injuries in the line.  In fact it is the only season since 2011 when we had 0 games with all 5 starters together.  And yet, on the back of a fantastic defense we went 12-4.

So, it doesn't all depend on the O line. But a solid line obviously is a huge plus. (Pun intended).

I think one excellent factor is that Marty and Ron are both aware that a new owner is scrutinizing every move.  It adds some pressure to make sure they don't get complacent.  Hoping that they can find us some solid pieces.

Yeah.  I don't like this thread at all.  We are really constrained by cap space.  Moton needs to ball out.  Hope Norv has a plan.

Ok, here's a O line Trivia Quiz to help y'all pass the time for a few hours before I can get back online and add more to this thread.

Since 2011 there have only been 2 Panthers Oline combos (playing together for 3+ games) to be UNDEFEATED.  Can you name either?

The two lines in question share only 1 common player. Who is it? (That should be easy)

I answered one of the combos on twitter. (Oher, Silatolu, Kalil, Turner, Remmers in 15). However I'm completely stuck on what the  2nd combo is.

Yup, you've nailed this one. Well done! They played together in this combo for 3 weeks in 2015 and won all 3.

Hint, the other combo won 4 consecutive games in 2013.

Another data nugget... This really surprised me...

I'm itching to find or dug into data for other teams and find out if this is the norm.  I know we all hear about the dearth of Oline talent, and that must be having an impact...

Here are the answers to the trivia quiz re: undefeated Panthers O line combos who played together for 3+ games.

I chuckle that they feature two very maligned players!

That's enough from me for today. Time to focus on the game. Will add more to this topic over the weekend.
