How much did you pay Jairus Byrd for his services again?

He might not be a tackle, but it's a valid question.

My goodness people lol.

The comment was Brees would have died. I agree with said comment, which is why the Saints have invested very well in the oline over his stay.

At no point in time did I say the Saints haven't handed out a literal poo ton of poo contracts lol. Junior Galette. Byrd. Jimmy. Browner. Spiller. The list goes on, but I won't.

You didn't really expect to make a statement like that without people coming back at you, right? :)

Agreed, but that's why it really irritated me tonight...  as KB was playing the series of his life, Cam almost threw a pick and the offense looked very Shula-like on that first series...  meanwhile, Peterman and his 49% completion percentage was 7 for 7 and KB was eating Seymour alive.  I felt compelled to jump uo and yell, "throw in the damn towel!"  Lol.

It was just really irritating because you won't find a bigger Cam guy than me, and I just didn't want KB to win this battle, even if it was preseason...  but as you said, ultimately it won't matter when the games count.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but KB can't do that consistently and I expect him to eventually just fade out of relevance in the next few seasons...  and that's not hate, I just never think he had the work ethic, focus, or dedication to the craft, and now that he got his Superbowl win, he'll go back to the same old, same old.  And needless to say, Cam is an NFL MVP, a generational talent, and a QB who has broke multiple HOF'ers career records while changing how the game is played from the position - both as a passer and runner...  he is the ultimate weapon.  But again, it just irked me that KB got his vengeance instead of appearing as his usual unfocused, fat, lazy, and disinterested self like he did here.

I've seen us (and numerous other teams) have awful pre-seasons be followed by fantastic regular seasons, and vice versa.

The only time I really want to raise an eyebrow is if we look awful in Preseason 3, but even then there's not always a correlation.

I guess I didn't mean it as as much of a slight as it seems to be taken as lol.

What I was saying was, the Saints can't afford to have a Matt Khalil on the oline, because Drew would be retired already lol.

Definitely.  I honestly don't care about the outcomes in preseason.  I really only watch to have some kind of feel for the roster, depth, and improvement of our guys we've invested in.

The KB/Cam beef just got me a little more involved in this one than I usually would be.

That one gif of Kalil was bad, and unfortunately I'm sure there will be more throughout the year.

As for tonight, I'm sure Panthers fans are way more concerned about Seymour looking like 2015 Browner out there and the secondary in general looking bad.

However, we finally have a legit receiving corp, and CJ Anderson along with a bulked up McCaffrey and Cam is going to be every bit as dangerous as Kamara and Ingram

Kamara and Ingram just put together one of the best seasons by a RB duo in history. Lets see CJ and CMC play together before we get into them being every bit as dangerous.

You joking people about not following the conversation, but I said those 2 plus Cam.

I'm not throwing shade on their historic season or saying CMC/CJ are as good as a duo as Kamara/Ingram, but collectively Carolinas run game is just as much of a threat as the Saints.

Cam Newton if he retired tomorrow is already one of the greatest red zone runners in NFL history. He makes any backfield dangerous.

My point being that adding a proven 1000 yard rusher still in his prime in Anderson with McCaffrey who has bulked up substantially with Cam scares any defensive coordinator in the league every bit as much as Kamara/Ingram

Cam Newton and the first-string offense were solid if unspectacular today, but both of the Panthers young wide receivers, Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore, had promising preseason debuts. Each finished with four catches and over 10 yards per catch.

On defense, rookies Donte Jackson and Rashaan Gaulden combined for 57 fairly non-descript snaps. They were only targeted three times on the day allowing two catches between the rookie duo.

On the defensive line, after contributing next to nothing his first two seasons in the league, Vernon Butler started showing flashes of why he was drafted in the first round. He had a few nice pass-rushes in 17 snaps in the first half.

These guys need to start next week. Throw them to the wolves and see how they handle it. There's no reason not to. The vets in front of them absolutely fuging suck.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
