Playcalling a bit stale tonight?

Boston

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm not coming across like some jackass that needs something to complain about by any means.

Honestly, I think tonight we witnessed one of the best games of the year from the NFL standpoint.

We may have lost, but we proved that we ARE one of the top NFC teams and we ARE a legit playoff contender. The Giants and the Panthers are the top 2 teams in the NFC. And it took 4 Quarters and Overtime for a winner to be decided. We fought hard and in the end I think the fact that the Giants were playing in their stadium with their fans kept them refreshed through overtime.

Anyways, that's not my point. During the game I noticed a trend. Run - Run - Pass.

1st down - Run.

2nd down - Run.

3rd down - Pass.

4th down - Punt.

It may have deviated a few times, but did anyone else notice this trend? It got to the point where I was like "Wow, this is the most predictable play calling i've ever seen."

Just a little discussion point to kinda cool things off around here :)

Every game we have won we ether had a real good running game our Jake did his damn thing. They feared to let him do it tonight an it cost us. If he would have threw an INT on the last play it would have not mattered. Sometimes you have to feel how the games going then react.

I'm not saying I disagree with the 2:1 Run:Pass ratio at all.

I'm just saying I disagree with being so predictable as to -when- we execute our Run/Pass plays.

It woulda been nice to see a Play Action pass on first down, or what not. Instead of 1st Down/Run, 2nd Down/Run, 3rd Down/Pass.

Oh me... that one hurt. Im proud of our guys though. The play callin should of changed there at the end. That pissed me off. They adjusted and we didnt. I kinda felt like we laid back some once we got up.

IE(going into our shell) We may never learn to :boxing_smiley: it out with fox. Just never have that keep pounding attitude IMO. NE has won alot of game with the exact approach to a game. Dont let up till the game is done.

The thing that pissed me off was the conservative play calling the first possesion before the half. The one with around two minutes left.

We will never have the go for the throat style with Fox. Damn the man got mad a Dwill for closing the TB game out with a TD. He has no faith in his offense to dominate.

meh both teams held back on O. wind didnt help, and the fact both staffs likely foresee a rematch later, they didnt show the entire arsenal tonight on either side of the ball. i did like the RB check downs. they were really effective, but thats not something we have shown as much of and they will be looking for it later. smitty didnt get involved in the 2nd half and it was a little outa wack with them not going his way in the 2nd half. that isnt a likely outcome later. we did intro them to jarrett, but not as much in the redzone. i think thats a plus, get him reps and hind him and moose down there.

giants did it to though, they didnt bring it like i have seen outa the playoff run, or early run. i hope thats our case on d too. we need some answers to that running game, even if they open the passing game up.

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
    • These refs are horrible.  They definitely got money on this game lol.
