Remember Deshaun Foster?

I keep reading in the paper and on various message boards that Jake is our best QB so we have to go with him. Ok, isn't John Fox the same head coach who ran Deshaun over DeAngelo for 2 or 3 years before finally realizing he was making a mistake? Same thing goes for Jake, eventually he will have to suck up his pride and bench the man because everyone who looks at the Panthers sees the same thing we all do. A QB who is making the offense one dimensional and having the head coach adjust to his weak arm instead of replacing him.

From what I remember we went through the same thing with Stephen Davis. I believe it finally took Davis to step down from the starting nod.

and there was a list a mile long by some why DeAngelo shouldn't be given the role and Fumblin Foster was still the best option despite his faults.

NEWSFLASH - when a player sucks EPIC BALLS like Jake and Foster. You bench them.

Word!

You can't keep saying we don't have better options without knowing what Moore is capable of doing in the field. And to find out, you have to play him.

don't forget that our O-line sucked EPIC BALLS every second that foster started on this team.

DeAngelo made plays behind that same OL. DeAngelo didn't hurt the team each week.

Foster left and went to SF....the only time you probably saw him last year is when Singletary ripped his head of and shiat down his neck for fumbling.

and foster didn't hurt the team when he was running behind davis. i'm not getting down on williams or saying foster was any good, i'm saying that the whole offense improved greatly at the same time williams was promoted to starter.

but in 07 Foster hurt the team and DeAngelo was running behind the same line and showed he was a better option....that is the point.

The 2003 season earned many guys too many extra years. Fosters' 03 season was highly overrated b/c of 2 plays.

That is continuing right now with our QB situation. John Fox is too loyal to one of the worst QB's in the league. At one time Jake was halfway decent, those years are LONG GONE.

Revisionist history at its best. Foster started because he was the best back in 2006 and the first part of 2007. With his continued fumbles, decreasing YPC and William's increased grasp of pass blocking and willingness to run between the tackles instead of always take it outside, DeAngelo emerged as a legitimate option and consequently got more playing time until he was the feature back at the end of the season. He was soft in 2007 and was called out by Testeverde for not wanting to be in there every play and giving 100%. He many times would pull himself out for a blow after a long run or a series or two. It wasn't until 2008 that he actually worked out seriously and put 100% into it and the results were amazing.

Fox put him in there when he was the best option and showed he could do the job. Just like he put in Stewart sparingly at first and has worked him more as he has developed and picked up the pass blocking in particular. This whole "only going with vets and being too loyal" flies in the face of the fact that we have started several rookies over veterans over the past several years right out of the box. These urban legends get repeated so much people think they are true.

They were talking about this on the radio...gantt was saying fox just does not trust the young guys..this is the reason why jarrett is on the bench..and gets passed two only twice the entire year....when are passing game sucks

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
