CMC's role in the passing game still amounts to handoffs.  They're just "extended handoffs".  I'm ok with Cam throwing the ball 50 times a game if he's getting 6 or 7 yards per play and moving the chains.  It's the same difference.

I don't see many Patriots and Packers fans complaining about not running the ball enough when their teams are scoring 30 points with ease week in and week out.  I don't blame them.

Pretty much. The term "long handoff" is used to describe short passes a lot for teams running WCOs. Works pretty well for the E-P that the Patriots run as well.

I guess when you have a black QB who happens to be one of the greatest running threats in NFL history but doesn't fit the mold of a standard white pocket passer and a white RB who happens to be one of the greatest receiving backs in the league but doesn't fit the mold of the standard black RB this is what you get...

2 of the most polarizing players in the league.

That being said, they are the 2 most integral pieces to our offense at the moment.  They both balled out versus Atlanta and would have won us the game if they would have had even a modicum of support from other players

That is spot on good way to say it

4.8 yards per carry makes you a damn good running back.

Exactly!..why does he have to be either or? Bryant Westbrook, LT, Marshall Faulk..tons of great RBs have been dual threats...CMC reminds me of Westbrook a lot. If that's what we got at number 8 how could we complain

Runningbacks haven't been purely runningbacks for a couple of decades now. Lord knows Emmitt Smith was deadly at taking passes out of the backfield.

I'm trying to remember who Smith's offensive coordinator was during those Super Bowl years. His name escapes me

I don't even have a problem with the checkdown game on Sunday.  The Falcons were giving that to us, and CMC was reliably picking up 5+ yards on them.  Getting 5+ yards on a checkdown, especially on 1st or 2nd down, is perfectly ok, and is a recipe for winning.  Especially when some RB are only getting 3 yards per.  It is like an extended handoff, and nobody would say 5 yards per carry is bad.

The problem was, we continually followed that up with a false start or holding penalty or a dropped pass which put us in a tougher spot on 3rd down.

Truthfully, if CMC and Cam play the way they did Sunday, we should win almost all of the time.  The defense was shockingly bad, and the offense kept doing stupid things.

Regardless, it's one game, and I am 100% on the CMC train.  We need to take some shots down the field, but Cam is taking what the defense is giving and if the Oline holds up, CMC continues to get ~5 yards per touch, and the receivers can actually catch, we're going to be just fine.

Christian is a great weapon for any QB.   With our line, he saves Cam from a lot of punishment.  The key is for other guys to start getting open.  Eventually, teams will focus in on Christian and others will have to step up.

That was week one.

The Cowboys went all out to try and stop McCaffrey. Turner saw it and exploited it.

I realize we're not used to seeing an OC do something like that...

CMac has been all that he can be for a number 8 pick, and hes still improving. I know the love affair with big fast running backs, I was a Jonathan Stewart super freak i his draft year. Im really happy we brought in CJ, really enjoyed watching him run, and look what he did for Brock Osweilers stock-- man that guy took a nose dive after Denver.

For Christian, if he gets 6-7 yards per catch, and makes himself like a West Coast type of running back, catching as much as he runs-- the point is to win games. He helped us win last year, and hes helping us win this year.  take back a CJ loaded int and Cam has had a great mistake free start to this season.

Cam is going to get his rushing yards regardless. He is that crucial to this offense.

But for whatever you may feel about CMC, if the goal is to make another deep playoff run, he is going to have to be right there in the thick of things amongst the rushing yardage totals for the best RB's in the league. In 2015 Cam had Stewart running like a madman, that catapulted our offense to the top of the heap. We need that spark again.

Gonna ignore the OP's premise which everyone else has correctly mocked, and say something for all the Torrey Smith haters as well. Why do you think Christian McCaffrey keeps catching the ball with not one defender in the frame? Torrey Smith is a known quantity on the outside, they have to respect him, and they would rather take their chances with coming up and making a tackle on Christian than letting Torrey get behind them.
