The REAL Problem of This Offense

Watching the future GOAT back-up Kyle Allen get injured a week after Taylor Heinecke has shown something.  Cam Newton is a monster and it's amazing that he lasted as long as he did behind this OL.

Anyone with a brain should know this already, but any competent offense thrives based on it's offensive line. One of the best things about Gettleman was his love for hawg mollies...he just sucked at finding them most of the time. For the benefit of Cam's health going forward...more than surgery even, CMC's continued ascension, and the development of our young pass catchers, we MUST bolster the OL this offseason.  Maybe more importantly than the DL which may seem crazy, but true.

During our 6-2 run, what was different?  Cam had clean pockets. His mechanics weren't forced back to poor form with torquing throws off balance. Basically, Chris Clark played well off his couch, then showed why he was on the couch to begin with.  Couple that with blitz pickup issues at times with Van Roten, and the left side of the line tanked our season. We'll also now have to replace Ryan Kalil at Center, so what should our plan be?

  • Re-sign Darryl Williams and pray he returns to form.
    • I have a feeling he signs a shorter prove it deal to cash in at a later date. Now with our former All-Pro RT back...
  • Move Moton to LT.
    • Rivera was forced to do this and Moton excelled. Moton has excelled everywhere, and if arguably your most important line position is a hole, how about filling it with a young burgeoning star?
  • Trai is fine at RG though he's regressed, and I feel like Van Roten works at LG.  Keeping Larsen as our new Center or backup guard works.
    • A line of Moton, Van Roten, Larsen, Turner, Williams is already better than anything we've trotted out this year. But to be safe...
  • Spend 2 high draft picks on OL.
    • Garrett Bradbury from NC State is my guy to take over at center.  Spend a 2nd rounder on him.  Grab a developmental OT for depth and Darryl Williams insurance.

If we're going to return to form, let this offense grow, AND most importantly, keep Cam clean...OL is our most important investment this year. Since I haven't mentioned him...someone make Matt Kalil disappear.

imagine if we spent the 14 million/year that the Jags gave to Norwell instead of 5 million/year to Torrey Smith (<200 yards all year) and 9 million/year to Poe who has been less productive than Kyle Love.

Norwell wouldn't have fixed our Tackle problem and Norwell hasn't performed 14 mil worth in Jacksonville. He didn't even finish the year.

Norwell is better than Van Roten at G and would have absolutely made our tackles better. He's better than Trai. He's great at pulling and blocking for a G as well.

Don’t want to disagree with a fellow Panthers fan but that oline scares no one

we also have no idea how Williams will be co one off surgery and what he will be able to sign for on his contract year. Moton also will be starting year 3 with a contract looming and then what to do with Kalil

go get that Star LT this year. Do it. Get it done.

Use the rest of the draft on defense but unless there is another defensive player in the board better than that LT from Florida, they best take that LT

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
