Like the other 100 players that did it before him, it's the only bargaining power a player has in the NFL.

lol you guys claim two things that cannot be true simultaneously:

"But... but... but he said that he would sign and play under the tag!"

Well, then why didn't he sign it?

"He couldn't sign the tag!  He would have had no bargaining power!"

(P.S. A player still has bargaining power even after signing the tag if he is SERIOUS about making a deal.  Instead of, you know, intending to hold out all along.  How?  Every team would rather prefer a contract where they can spread the cost of that contract over multiple years instead of a huge hit on the cap in a single, individual year.  That alone encourages teams to continue negotiating in good faith.  The reason you don't sign the tag as a player is that you don't plan to obligate yourself for just one year to the team applying that tag, i.e. you intend to HOLD OUT.)

The secondary was still the problem this year. It performed somewhat better, but when exposed, they were truly as bad as expected. What wasn't expected was our defensive line taking a year off to collect free money outside of Addison. Mario deserves to be there. Everyone else can see their way out.

The Dline not getting pressure is a big part of making the secondary look bad.  Given all the time they want, QBs are going to gash our zone.  I think Bradberry, Jackson and Reid played well.

That’s ridiculous... players don’t sign their tags till the deadline for negotiating a long term deal on the reg.  Which is usually mid July.   And all of this happened b4 the draft.  It doesn’t mean anything outside of being a bargaining chip in negotiations.

We don’t know what Norman’s intentions were.

What we do know is that after Norman was gone, DG fugged us for years to come with that craptastic draft class.  And that was draft was precipitated by his decision to rescind the tag.

When I look back, two events triggered a lot of foundering around.  I am not even going to criticize the decisions on moving on from these two players, but the efforts to replace them took a lot of hit and miss efforts, mostly miss:

Steve Smith and Josh Norman.

Every year since the 2014 draft we have been in the market for WRs, perhaps until now.  And the search for the ever-elusive shutdown corner, or one that can hold his own against a #1WR has been exhaustive.

I agree and you can add a 3rd to this list....Jordan Gross forced out after the 2013 season. The Panthers hve been trying to replace him since....5-years.

    • Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.
    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
