I know how we all feel about walterfootball and his analysis is sketchy at best. But he has a feature that I haven't seen any other draft source have and its great for perspective. I know this is all subjective,but I love his position review something he does yearly where he combine this years class and the one before it to show how prospects would rank and the class as a whole if the two merged.

The 2018 NFL Draft was weak at defensive end, and comparing this year's edge rushers to last year's class makes that all the more glaring. If you were to merge the two classes together, Nick Bosa and Bradley Chubb are equal as prospects. Montez Sweat, Rashan Gary and Clelin Ferrell are better prospects than Marcus Davenport, but Davenport is better than Brian Burns and Zach Allen. Burns and Allen are better than 2018 second-round pick Breeland Speaks. Jaylon Ferguson would go behind Tyquan Lewis at the end of the second round and ahead of Chad Thomas in Round 3. Jachai Polite is only toward the end of this group because of off-the-field issues. If Polite were clean off the field, he would be between Bosa and Sweat. 


He proceeds to place projections on who he thinks is the safest pick at the position followed by how he has done the last 5-6 year in projecting those safe picks.

Looking back at the previous picks, I'm pretty strong. Chubb got off to an excellent start with a strong rookie year. Garrett is on his way to being one of the best defensive players in the NFL, and Buckner was phenomenal in 2018. Buckner is one of the best young defensive linemen in the NFL. An injury robbed Fowler of his rookie season, but he started to emerge as a dangerous edge defender in his third year. He has upside to be even better over the next year or two. Clowney is a Pro Bowler who was dominant in 2016 and 2017. He has become one of the top defensive players in the NFL. Werner was drafted into a 3-4, and that was a terrible fit for him as he was a 4-3 defensive end. He was a huge bust, so I was way off on him, but the most of the others are panning out very well, with Fowler being okay but not good. 

This was an easy choice because Bosa is a safe prospect to develop into a good NFL pro. For the next level, Bosa looks like a potential franchise edge rusher capable of producing double-digit sack seasons on an annual basis. He could be a player who goes to multiple Pro Bowls and is one of the most dangerous pass-rushers in the NFL. Bosa is worthy of being a high first-round pick in any draft class. Team sources also feel that he is a safe pick. 

 

He then goes on to Project who he thinks is the biggest bust potential similar to above. after that it get interesting... He breaks the top players in this class at there position and rank them by individual attributes or where they win.

Is it bad when half of your safest picks are busts?

Not so much... this might be the best defensive line class in history, but edge is a separate debate. As far as defensive ends go after Ferrell your just throwing darts at the wall. Norris. Plenty other think this edge class is not so deep.

Its a shame that anyone that watched College FB knew Bjoern Werner  was not that good and was going to be a bust but most of the draft analyst tried to push this guy as a top pass rusher

I would think that JAX had more in mind for Fowler than one good year and a 3rd round pick when he went 3rd overall.. 

 But Buckner isn’t one. Not close. 

The others are two “freak” #1 overalls and and #5 who might be better than both.

I agree you had more in mind when you drafted Fowler,But he also had one season wiped away due to injuries, they also gave up on him before the end of his rookie contract. so basically you had 2-3 season to actually see him and one of those seasons he had 8 sacks. I think he has shown he can be an effective pass rusher,but so far he is just ok.... Not a bust but not a splash he is a NFL caliber player tho. A bust in my mind is a guy who just isnt an effective football player and washes out the league.

  Remember in the context of 3rd overall.

 That’s a similar resume to KB with injury and play and even return. You could argue we got a lot more from KB. At 28. And he’s a bust. 

  Doesn’t matter what he does to JAX after trade. He’s value is done with the trade.

You don't give up on the #3 overall pick in the draft during his rookie contract unless you're really damn sure he's a bust.

  Really not relevant to the team that drafted him. For which he was a disappointment.

If you lose one year due to injuries, then one year you have 8 sacks. then hes gone by year 4, I don't think you did enough research to say he's a bust. especially if he is effective elsewhere on another team. I think Butler has shown to be a bust more so than Fowler did but the Panthers are still sitting on him and not throwing in the towel.
