It was easily 2006. Expectations were through the roof. I think many of us already knew this was going to be a down year. Its just worse than we thought.

I already saw this as a down year considering what we gave to Peppers and the fact that our cupboard was empty with quality backups. That along with the fact that we are playing a tougher schedule and the NFC East, I knew we were in for a year that would require KY Jelly.

If we had played Arizona close or beaten them and lost to Philadelphia in a squeaker, this would easily win. But we got blown out at home and therefore I vote for 1997.

2004 or 2006 definitely, I expected us to make another playoff run in the least those two years. If I had to pick, I'd say 2006 This year, I was hoping we would continue last years success, but I expected 8-8 or 9-7. It's a bit worse then I thought, and a lot worse then I hoped it would be.

yeah, I'd have to say 2004....we went to the Superbowl the year before and then started out 1-7 during the 04 season. It ended well, but through 6 games I'll go with 2004

I'd say 2006 was the big disappointment, given how many of the pundits had proclaimed that we could walk to the Super Bowl, and MeShawn Johnson was supposed to be the answer to so many of our woes (we should have kept Ricky Proehl!). We never got untracked that year.

1997 had the big flap involving Kevin Greene, who ended up on the 49ers. Kerry Collins got busted up in the preseason game against Denver when perennial scumbag Bill Romanowski came up under his face mask for the express purpose of knocking his teeth out, which he did and then some. We thus never met any expectations that year.

This year may have had hopes tamped down simply because of the strength of schedule. We played a weak schedule last year, which helped our record. But I rate 2006 as the biggest disappointment.
