Yeah that’s my point, Rivera and company either don’t know how to handle the situation, by creating a smokescreen or they do, and are giving open ended answers because they don’t want distractions among the team.

knowing how Rivera operates it could be either or a little of both, media is going to ask those questions it’s there job, but within the organization I gotta believe they know what the plan is

Josh Parcell just made a good point about Ron defending Cam after game 2 and telling Joe Person to stop worrying about Cam's foot, defending Cam if you will --- only to have Cam come to him afterward and say "hey man my foot is hurt & I have been hiding it from you"....made Ron look awful.

After that team continued to keep info on the down low....then came the "vlog" which basically threw the coaching staff under the bus.

Then Ron tries to get everyone off Cam's back about not showing up at games by saying the "medical staff" does not want him flying -- Cam rewards him by prancing through the CLT airport and flying off to somewhere.

Cam and the team are not on the same page.  Both probably deserve some of the blame.  At this point I don't believe ANYTHING that Rivera says about the situation.

One thing we know for sure, is, we don't yet know the truth....

....but it will come out in time.

No, they don't. But this is the Panthers and considering Cam's history with them AND the fact that he's making a rather large salary will dictate that the Panthers put him behind center when he is healthy.

If Ol' Jer were still the owner your thesis might hold some water.

With Tepper at the helm the math changes....Cam's salary is pocket change for big-brass-balls Tepper.

The amount of money they are paying him dictates that he takes the starting role once he is healthy enough to do so.

That's just not true.

Drew Bledsoe was the highest paid player in the NFL and went down in game-2 of his new contract --- Brady came in to spell him --- Bledsoe was never again the #1 QB for the Patriots.

You guys can hope all you want. If Cam is 100%, he's back in.

Actually you probably need to start preparing yourself to be disappointed.  Cam will never be 100% again, a 52yr old arthritic shoulder won't allow for it.

The problem with bringing Cam in is the potential that we could be throwing the season away in doing so.  Cam Newton is very likely to be a liability when he comes back.  Kyle Allen isn't out there winning the games on his own, but he's making the smart decisions that don't lead to losses.

Are we sure Cam is a liability when he comes back? I'd argue that available information suggests it depends largely on whether he is 100% or not. See: last season, a tale of two Cams.

Note that I didn't say I was SURE he would be.  I said he "very likely" would be.

Okay but what makes you say that? I've watched every game they've played and I have no idea if he will be a liability or not, I just it depends on him being fully healthy. Are you implying you don't have faith he will be fully healthy when he returns, or do you believe some irreversible physical damage has been done that permanently affects his game?

In other words what makes you say very likely as opposed to "it's a toss up."?

I don't have faith that the "100%" Cam we call keep talking about actually exists anymore.  He has permanent, irreversible damage in his shoulder, and at this point it has crippled him mentally as much as physically.  I know somebody who knows somebody that is supposedly his trainer. Whether my friend is lying to me or not, it's pretty obvious the shoulder is as good as it's going to get.  If we have seen the best of his ability throwing the ball, he's doomed.

I would hope your acquaintance is wrong also, but I don't know anybody who even claims to know anything, so I guess we'll see. Was just curious to hear exactly where you were coming from on that. Thanks for elaborating.

Let the media speculate, that’s there job, they are wow’d by 4 games and ready to ride the Allen Train wherever it goes

but what consequences do they faced if they’re  wrong about there opinion on this matter? Nothing, but we face giving up on a potential top 8 qb on the sample size of 5 games?

Im sure the front office is evaluating more than just the win streak we are on now, far too many times do teams make this same mistake, the difference is this is a mistake that could send us straight to the bottom of the league for years if we mess this up.

Again, I watched luck,Wentz, ect miss more games and still didn’t hear such a hard on from the media to have them replaced, Wentz backup won the super bowl and there still were only a few rumbling about keeping foles and getting rid of Wentz.

Media is trying to paint cam as Sam Bradford and that’s far from the case

This is biased.  No, the media is not comparing Cam to Bradford.  Cam is unique and the way he plays the game is unique.  Without the run option, is he elite?  His body determines that--Bradford was not a running qb.

Cam is a better overall QB than Allen.  He is a better athlete.  But Cam has taken an NFL beating for about a decade.  No QB comes close to the # of hits he has taken--They take a toll.  So, you would invest $150m in Cam and get stuck behind an oft-injured QB for the next 5-6 years?  Cam without the run threat is like Secretariat without legs.

We have athletes all around the QB position--no longer do we need the running QB.  We need a game manager who gets the ball out accurately and on time.  Samuel, Moore, CMC, Olsen, etc. are the runners with the ball.  We are winning with them because the QB position is too sacred to be diving into the endzone on a QB draw vs. goal line defenses.  That is what we asked Cam to do.

Cam could play another 5-7 years---I personally doubt it.  This ain't Madden-these injuries are for life.  Cam has shown no willingness to adapt to becoming a drop back passer--the style that allows QBs to last until they are 40 like Brees, Brady, Rivers, etc.  Heck, even Warren Moon told Cam that he would need to evolve to survive.  Moon used to be a running QB, but evolved in the NFL and became great.

Emotions aside, you go with the QB that wins games and you trade the "big decision" and take the winnings to build the future.  Just my opinion.  I see your points--but they require good weather and smooth seas.  We are not guaranteed that at all.

All honesty, I have doubts on that too.

Today's game changed my view on Kyle Allen a little bit, and I think he's a fine starter. He showed he can improve from past mistakes (zero fumbles when sacked, better pocket movement aside a few blips) and he's getting there. I don't think he'd be what we want in terms of leading us in clutch situations against playoff teams.

Cam Newton has history and play-making ability that Kyle Allen simply doesn't have. And that's okay.

My concerns with the "play Kyle Allen until he loses" mentality is just simply the idea of losing. We know he won't be reaching Cam Newton's ability anytime soon, and it makes no sense to sit a better player and ride out someone who's still working it out.

That's why imo, it would make sense to put Cam Newton in when healthy period, no matter if we haven't lost yet. Cam's ability will help transcend the team in general.

I stand by the belief he literally just needs to heal up his plant foot. His velocity is there. The only he can't throw deep deep is due to not being able to step into his throws, hence the underthrow to Samuel vs. Tampa. But once he can step into it, this team can be very special.

And if he's not healthy? We know now that Kyle Allen can do enough to win us games and show improvement. He's a solid fallback plan.

I see your points, but is Cam healthy? If you are coach, do you bench an undefeated QB and put Cam back in?  What if he loses that game?  If he plays well, do you give him a $140m contract for the next 4-5 years--will he be worth $35m per season when he is 35?  I think the decisions they have in front of them are potentially career-ending.  Marty already overpaid older players once before, and this franchise paid for it for a few years.  If you have a choice, do you gamble on Cam, whose skill set will not be the same as it was, or do you use the $$ you would save to build around a 23-year old QB that simply wins?   Nobody knows the answer---Nobody.   Whatever the decision is, it is a gamble.

There is an interesting discussion on an insiders Buffalo Bills Forum

Speculation that Brandon Beane will look to trade for Cam Newton this offseason.  If you recall, Brandon Beane was the one who pushed and advocated for Hurney to draft Newton, and has always been his biggest advocate.

The Buffalo Bills have the best defense in the NFL, and would be a front runner with good quarterback play, in the chance Newton returns to form next season.  The Cardinals already moved on from Josh Rosen, the Bills would have no problem moving on from Josh Allen.

Would you be open to trading Cam Newton to Buffalo for a draft pick?

If the bills would trade two firsts and a second I'm all in. Miami could do the same and I'm sure Cam would love Miami and no taxes.

I don't mind losing a (close!) game or two to get Cam some additional rest time. If Cam comes back golden, and we let Kyle play long enough to prove his worth, then we could have a nice trade option with a team that is desperate for a QB. Especially since we are currently awash in "Panther QBs of the Future" with Grier hanging around.
