You have to balance that out with the fact that when he did play, he looked pretty damn good. In the hypothetical that he never returns or his career is derailed by concussions, it is hard to see that coming. He passed his medicals and he started every game of his junior and sophomore seasons. It isn't like there was a well established history of him having concussion issues. So, if he ends up a bust, it's kind of a "what do you do" kind of bust. Reminiscent of Jeff Otah who was very good but became a bust due to injuries. 

But, yeah, in those scenarios it will be hard not to look at the players that could have really helped us at 47 and 77. That will really suck.
