HYPOTHETICAL Cam Trades Thread

Since the rumor mill keeps churning up that we may attempt to trade Cam, I have a few questions for people to discuss.

  • What is the minimum you would want in return(what round picks, type of players, etc)?
  • What is the ideal result(picks, players, etc)?
  • What are the likely destinations and/or teams interested?
  • What are the teams you would absolutely NOT want to see him get traded to?

We're not trading nor releasing Cam.

The media is overreacting like they always do. A 100% healthy Cam Newton is worth the $20 million cap hit.

We will see. Trying not to get too caught up in the sports media speculation frenzy.

It's not just sports media.

Our own Roaring Riot has always had pretty reliable sources, and he's one of the people who seriously doubts Newton will be back.

Obviously, nothing is impossible and things could change. But right now, way too many people who I would consider reliable sources say it's highly unlikely.

Until I hear otherwise, that's what I'm expecting.

This is about more than Cam. This is very much about Rivera/Hurney and the future of the organization. If Tepper isn’t sold on Cam as the future QB, we’d be foolish to let him walk for nothing in FA and not utilize the $19M to make the team better sooner.

I think the goal is what the goal should be for a franchise guy. A first rounder. Let’s say we got a Top 12 pick for him. We can immediately go after a real #1 receiver in the draft, trade back our #1 in the 1st for maybe two 2nd rounders and rebuild the OL with 3 very talented guys. Then we could use the $19M savings to plug holes on defense. Put all that around Allen and see what he can do with it, and if he is worth the investment. I don’t think he’s a franchise QB necessarily, but he makes more plays than a typical game manager to me.

Keeping Cam next uear makes absolutely zero sense if you’re not gonna give him the big contract though.

We will see. I am not convinced that decision has been made with this much football left to play. Lots of time between now and the offseason.

1st and 2nd may not be realistic but would be an outstanding result. It would suck to see him in Denver given the hatred I have for them after 2015.

As for a trade with the Bears, I think they have two second rounders and then nothing until the fifth.  If they want to trade us the #42 pick (their first of the draft) and somebody like Kyle Fuller, maybe that would be worth considering.

If they want to include Trubisky, it will cost them #42, Fuller (or equivalent), and their pick at #48.

I just picked Fuller at random, looking for a CB.  For the record, I want Cam back in camp next year, hopefully injury free, and looking to build on the first half of 2018,

I would say if they wanted to include Trubisky we should get their next 10 first round draft picks.

I get that, but the primary factors in the equation aren't really dependent on what happens the rest of the season.

Newton wants an extension, and is apparently unwilling to play without one (a reasonable position for a quarterback of his age and status).

Tepper doesn't want to give him one. He wasn't sold on the idea at the time he bought the team, and nothing that's happened since has really served to change his mind (also a reasonable position when you look at the last few years).

For Newton to stay, one of those two sides has to change their mind. Most don't believe that's going to happen.

So here we are...

Yeah but we also don't know that any of that information is completely true, partially true or otherwise. It is certainly possible and it's what the rumor mill has dug up, but it's also probably not a scenario where anyone involved has completely concrete positions carved out.

I am just looking for hypothetical scenarios if all of that IS true, but time will tell how much of this ends up being accurate. Let's just let that all play out.

Completely agree.  I think there is a stand-off taking place and Cam will lose.  Just my opinion.
