Suggestions for a Draft Success Metric

That's interesting. I'd be curious to know how they measure that and make it something that isn't just basically "the eye test." I could see maybe being able to derive some situational statistics for critical moments but some positions would be difficult to apply that kind of thing to, I would think.

Analytics can’t measure intangibles. Only estimate them.

It’s true.  I saw an interview about how they find middle of the road draft picks. Like Richard Sherman, and they become stars.  They value competitiveness and intelligence just as highly as physical skill. Sherman was apparently mid rd at best.  That is how they have stayed competitive all these years...look at Wilson, he fits no standard metric at all

like the Patriots, they don’t keep players past prime either

Yeah but putting together an actual number for something like competitiveness would be a nightmare. You would have to identify some key areas where that could actually be measured at all. It's not impossible but it would seem like it would be a lot easier to just do your homework in interviews and research a player's background. I'm not doubting what they are doing, just wondering if they are essentially using a subjective grading system(ala PFF).

As for Wilson, it wasn't that he didn't fit any standard metric, it's just that there has been a traditional bias against short QB's.

And the Pats have not been as successful recently through the draft as they were in the past. IMO, they just have an elite ability to realize when someone isn't getting the job done and move on.
