PSP: Practice Squad Predictions

MHS831

Recommended Posts

This year, the Practice squad will be larger and with the Corona Virus AND the fact that we had no preseason games, stands to be basically an extension of the roster.   So, I took a look at the players cut, and without researching eligibility of each because I had stuff to do,  I thought it would be fun to predict the players who will make it.  I am picking about 10-12,  including one or two from the current roster after tomorrow's rush to sign players that were cut.

  • DT Myles Adams

  • DB Quin Blanding

  • RB Reggie Bonnafon (If he has some eligibility, and I think he does, I would expect to see him here.  However, someone said Washington might sign him, and with AP getting cut, that makes sense)

  • OT Branden Bowen  (I think Bowen could make the PS and develop for a year; he was solid at Ohio State, but he had a nasty injury.  It may take a big man 2 years to fully recover)

  • DT Woodrow Hamilton

  • DT Bruce Hector

  • OG Mike Horton (This G from Auburn could be active by midseason.  I am not a fan of what we have at G---and if Daley has to play T, we could need a G)

  • DB Jameson Houston

  • WR Ishmael Hyman (From what I could see, Hyman was at the other end of several big plays this summer---I think he could get grabbed, but without a preseason, do teams know how he did in practice?)

  • DB Natrell Jamerson

  • DE Jalen Jelks  (You could argue that he has had enough time to show what he has, but if he can stay on the PS for a season, why not?)

  • LB Jordan Kunaszyk (Call me crazy, but this might be the best MLB on the team vs. the run.  The competition above him is not stout--he could be on the team very soon)

  • DE Austin Larkin

  • WR Marken Michel

  • OT Aaron Monterio

  • LB James Onwualu

  • LB Chris Orr (This is pure speculation, but he seems to be the best undrafteded free agent LB--and we signed many. )

  • WR Cam Phillips

  • TE Giovanni Ricci

  • WR Darrell Stewart

  • C Sam Tecklenburg  (Every team needs 3 centers to run a practice---3 qbs, 3 centers.  Paradis and Larsen and ....Tecklenburg)

  • TE Colin Thompson (I do not know anything about this guy---but he is a TE and all of ours are not doing much)

  • K/P Kaare Vedvik  (With this guy on the PS, we have depth at 2 spots)

The Panthers should sign a TE and that will drop Hartsfield to the PS---I am guessing, of course.

I do not know these players that well----but the bottom of the roster (45-60 or so) are probably going to be fluid.

    • I don't think he did it to spite Bryce. Seems like Bryce is a truly decent guy that virtually everyone likes. I do think Frank likely preferred Stroud and was either was led to believe or deluded himself into thinking that he would have a lot more say in the direction we went at QB in the draft. Once we decided on Bryce knowing Bryce didn't fit his system and preferences in a QB it really seemed like the wind went out of Frank's sails and he basically started mailing it in and just waited to get fired and paid out. Maybe I'm misreading the whole situation but that's certainly the way it looked to me from the outside looking in.
    • Again, it may have nothing to do with Bryce Young. The coaches are thinking about the whole roster. Many guys have said how much different this off-season has been not having to start from square 1 with a playbook, language, etc. You’re talking about bringing in a guy to lead the 2nd team offense who they now have to spend time teaching. Every team is different. This team is young and developing across the board and trying to find some positive continuity. With how Morgan and Canales have approached everything I’m fairly certain they considered all possibilities and decided it was best for the overall team to roll with Dalton for now. They value whatever it is they feel Dalton brings over the extremely low probability of whatever washed out, journey man, reclamation project developing into a franchise QB. You and I have no idea why and aren’t there in the meetings, but it’s clear that the FO sees this young failed franchise QB project as less likely to pan out than you do.
    • Frank justed wanted to throw Young to the wolves because he wanted to draft Stroud. It was a big FU to Tepper and that is why he only lasted a few games before getting canned.
