Update: NFL will allow early head coaching (and possibly GM) interviews

Haven't been able to confirm if anything similar will be allowed for GMs. My guess is no. Tepper stated yesterday that they couldn't start interviews till the season ended.

Unless this changes, only internal candidates and guys who aren't employed can be interviewed for now.

Update: Albert Breer's wording seems to indicate that this could apply to GM candidates as well, but after reading the memo it doesn't sound like it.

Nothing ambiguous at all about that memo.  It clearly does not include GM candidates from the "new" piece of the puzzle.  In every other applicable location, it states that it applies to "High Level" employees.

The memo is clear. Breer's tweet threw me off, but after reading the memo it's coaches only.

Mind you, Mike Florio thinks that's a bad call.

Early coaching interviews make little sense if GM candidates can't interview too

My thing on this though is that it puts some teams in an odd position.

If say, you're the Jets or the Chargers, you might like the chance to get an early jump on the coaching search but you...ummm...haven't actually fired your current coach yet.

Part of me feels the reason we let Marty go when we did was that the person (people) Tepper wants to interview are hot commodities and with there being so many openings he didn’t want to lag behind.

So far it doesn't look like anybody's taking advantage of this.

I did see a report though that the Texans are interviewing a candidate, but one who's currently unemployed so he doesn't count.
