Can we still host the NFCCG?

irony:

  • A perception of inconsistency, [usually but not always humorous], in which an apparently straightforward statement or event is undermined by its context so as to give it a very different significance
  • Verbal irony. . . involves a discrepancy between what is said and what is really meant.
  • Structural irony. . . involves the use of a naive or deluded hero or unreliable narrator whose view of the world differs widely from the true circumstances recognized by the author and readers.
  • In dramatic irony. . . the audience knows more about a character's situation than a character does foreseeing an outcome contrary to a character's expectations, and thus ascribing a sharply different sense to the character's own statements.

One of the definitions of irony is "an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected."

Or even: "a state of affairs that appears perversely contrary to what one expects."

So, for the grammatical kings, they aren't really all that wrong. Even if the original definition (from who knows when [well, the dictionary usually knows when the word originated, but they don't date definitions]) differs from how it is being used now, that does not make them incorrect.

The definitions and meanings of words change as they are used. Thus, if a word is misused for a long period, it eventually becomes correct.

Just go through the dictionary and you will see how many archaic definitions there are.

Here's a thought, how about we just focus on now? Because if we lose this weekend, there won't be a home playoff game.

It's not about us; it's about the team.

We're going to cheer either way even if we are focused on the games down the road. We aren't a part of the team, only the fanbase. It's important for the team to focus on this weekend, not us.

No, that does not make the fanbase unimportant.

Talking about hosting the NFC CG when we still have a legit shot at slipping to the 5 seed is a bit ridiculous though.

So we shouldn't make predictions at all? Gotcha.

Note: I do get your point, and agree that it's a bit ridiculous, but none-the-less it's decently fun to think about the possibility. This is especially true when it equates to the Giants losing a game. I don't like them at all now.

I'm not a sore loser at all... what gave you that impression... :P

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
