Stewart is a liability

Or I should say, the way we are using him makes him a liability. He is a great back, and I think he should see the ball a few times a game, but I don't think he should get the 10-15 carries he does over Deangelo. It's no secret that Williams gets better as the game goes on and does most of his magic in the second half (at least during the games that we are not behind and throwing every down) It seems like every game that Williams will rattle off a 12 yard run on first and ten and then check himself out for Stewart, only for Stewart to be stopped for two to four yards and all of a sudden Jake needs to throw the ball twice in order to convert. Our game against Miami was a prime example of this happening. Deangelo needs to get into a rhythm and when Stewie comes in after every good run it just hurts that rhythm.

Use him for what he is, a goal line and short-yardage situation back. Deangelo should be the one running on first down, and he should definitely be the one in the game on pass plays and on the draw plays. Stewart is a very good running back, but Deangelo needs more touches. He is our best player.

Take away pass attempts from Delhomme, not carries from Stewart.

You can't /thread your own post.

While I agree we shouldn't throw as much, we have to have some semblance of a passing game or we aren't going to go anywhere. We may have won thursday night, but Fox knows that we needed to build on the success at Atlanta with Jake if we want to have a chance to make the playoffs. The 42 pass plays were inflated because of those last few drives where all we did was throw. (and we had to) I'm only pissed that Deangelo only got thirteen carries while he was playing incredibly. Put the ball in your best player's hands.

All I'm saying is that when your Running Back is picking up nine yards a clip he shouldn't have touches taken away by your other running back who is only picking up three yards a clip. Jake is obviously the real problem, but that has been beaten to death. This is another problem that needs to be fixed. They get about the same ratio of carries as Johnson and White, not almost split down the middle.

Williams should get 25 touches a game, rushes, catches, whatever you have to do.

pass less then. Don't blame Stewart just because there are enough Jake bashing threads. Umm...hmmm...you could try blaming Davidson? There aren't enough threads covering that, and you would actually have good reason.

You're missing the point.

We both agree that Jake is the problem, another problem is how the carries are divided. When your starting RB is on fire and playing lights out he should get more carries than the backup RB who is not playing nearly as well. In the Miami game Deangelo had 13 carries for 122 yards, while Stewart had 12 for 43. Give six of those carries to Deangelo and maybe we win that game.

jeez, where's the common sense?

Obviously we run the ball more. Obviously we take attempts away from Delhomme. This thread isn't about Delhomme. This thread is about how Stewart takes too many carries from Williams. Thank you for successfully missing the point four consecutive times.

Williams is our best player. And the reason he is able to do so well is that we rotate him and keep him fresh. Increase the carries he gets, and his effectiveness will lessen. He should get about 18-25 carries a game, Stewart should get 15-20 a game, and Delhomme should throw a lot less.

    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
