Titans 4 Straight Now

Exactly.

But really: Fox and Co. couldn't -- through free agency or the draft -- grab a quarterback to at least challenge Jake?

I know there were years where we didn't need a quarterback to challenge him (2003-2005). But at the very least we should have looked at someone for insurance, or someone to groom to be Jake's successor.

It seems every other team tries to improve at one of the most important positions on the team. For John Fox, the quarterback is an afterthought.

I've always wondered that as well. Especially after Tommy John surgery, we should have grabbed somebody. I would have tried to grab someone after that NFC Championship game in Seattle.

Yep, a couple quick examples would be.

Brett Favre, draft Aaron Rodgers.

Donnvan Mcnabb, draft Kevin Kolb.

And because of this we have one of the best young running games in the NFL and plenty of young talent on defense. Unfortunately, they made some gambles and lost.

Yes we need a QB now, but it's not like it was as glaring of a need as people tend to think now.

Kinda funny as all those calling for Cowher seem to only remember the Roethlisberger years and forget the Stewart/Maddox years.

Perfect examples.

Those teams were more than set at quarterback (moreso than the Panthers, in fact), but they were aware that anything could happen -- and they were aware that you have to prepare for the future (a novel concept, I know).

Now it would appear both teams have someone who will be able to play at a high level for years to come.

And I totally understand that. That's what's so frustrating, to me. I think overall Fox and Hurney have done a tremendous job at finding talent at nearly every position but quarterback.

Honestly, I think I'd like to see Fox and Hurney back next year, but only after an offseason in which they aggressively pursue an improvement at the quarterback position. I want them to acknowledge, for once, that the position is an important one, and to act accordingly.

The one thing I wish they would have done though is use the Ron Wolf method and take a QB in the later rounds every year.

Agreed.

I do realize that, in this offense, we don't need a Peyton Manning or a Drew Brees.

We need a game manager with a strong arm -- someone who can take what the defense gives them. That used to be Jake Delhomme.

I don't know -- perhaps Fox was hesitant to draft any quarterbacks after drafting Fasani and LeFors. :smilielol5:

The Titans now have a QB who can pick up 3rd downs and give them long TOP. Something they severely lacked in the first 6 games of the season. The Titans now have a QB who along with Chris Johnson gives their offense sideline to sideline ability and has helped open up their offense. Look at Chris Johnson's #'s balloon from when Collins was starting to the past 4 games under Young. The guy is getting 150 a game now because teams are being forced to pick their poison, Vince or Chris. The Titans now have a QB their defense can believe in to make plays at the end of the game and will keep them off the field most of it, thus they have performed better. If you put Vince Young on the Carolina Panthers, DeAngelo Williams & Jonathan Stewart would be doing what you're seeing Chris Johnson doing and we would have less 3 and outs. Too bad our owner and front office would NEVER bring in a QB with Young's skillset and will live and die with a QB similar to the one Tennessee benched in favor of Young.

Only problem with this is that it is not in fox's philosophy to draft qbs in the higher rounds. we all know how stubborn he can be. does anyone really expect him to learn from his mistakes? to change his philosophy now? he will continue to keep jake the starter and bring in throwaways a qb hoping he can recapture 2003.

    • I’ve haven’t seen anything that says we have interest in Njoku?
    • I think the Njoku interest revealed intent and the type of TE they want.  I really expected more from Sanders.
    • Defensive tackle (or end in a 3-4 base) is suddenly a rather significant need.  It seems to be a forbidden topic on the Huddle.  Well I am going to unforbidden it for this thread. When we lost Robinson, it was a salary cap cutting move, saving us about $9m or so, I think.  That suggests that we are going to get cheaper, younger, and maybe, more multi-dimensional.  First, what did we lose in Robinson: (Charlotte Observer)  "Robinson co-led the team in sacks (5.5) in 2024, and he ranked second among Carolina linemen, behind Brown, in sacks (2.5) in 2025. (Derrick) Brown played on 76.4% of the Panthers’ defensive snaps last year, while Robinson played on 62.2% of those reps. No other defensive lineman played more than 38.3%, as free-agent addition, Turk Wharton, dealt with injuries throughout his first season in Carolina. Wharton played in just nine games, producing 36 total tackles and two sacks. He’s guaranteed $14 million this upcoming season. Read more at: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article314544998.html#storylink=cpy OK, about Turk Wharton.  The Observer claims that he and Bobby Brown III were to rotate into the Robinson DE position, but that is too weird for my head to comprehend.  First, Brown III is a NT by trade and Wharton weighs about 280 lbs and is not stout vs. the run.  Brown III is not going to provide the internal pass pressure; he is basically designed to take on double teams and dig in.  Wharton, on the other hand, had a PFF score in those 9 games of 40 or so.  In fairness, he was playing with injuries, but Damn.  PFF gives me a higher rating at the Golden Corral buffet.  In other words, we need a true DT who can fill the two thirds of snaps that we just released.  We can't count on Turk and Brown III is not the answer.  Cam Jackson?  Same as Brown.  Have your people do what they do best.  Furthermore, Derrick Brown probably should limit his snaps.  Playing more than 3/4 of the snaps is hard on the body.  A tired player in the trenches is more prone to lower-body injuries. We need a player who can give Derrick Brown some relief and play opposite him as well.  Turk can rotate in but he needs to shoot gaps and give Guards and tackles fits--a change of pace.   I have to think we are going to draft DT much sooner than most Huddlers realize.  My favorite, you didn't ask? Probable second-rounder Gracen Halton (No. 59 overall, according to ESPN's March 2026 update). Once considered a Day 3 sleeper, his 2026 NFL draft stock has exploded into Round 2 or 3 due to elite interior pass-rush metrics.  Projected Round: 2 (Early to Mid) Key Traits: Elite explosive, quickness, 12.2%+ pass-rush win rate, and positional versatility to play inside on passing downs. Combine Highlights: Led defensive tackles in the vertical jump (36.5”) and broad jump, per Sports Illustrated. Draft Stock: Rising fast due to consistent 2025 production (7 tackles for loss) and a "freak show" combine performance, according to Stormin in Norman.  Halton is considered a high-motor playmaker and a potential Day 2 standout, notes   I would not be surprised to see DT on day 2.
