Charlie Weis:"Golden Tate is a Steve Smith (carolina panthers) clone"

I think tate is bigger...but could you imagine two of them

He reminds me of (Carolina Panthers receiver) Steve Smith. I know Steve Smith well, I'ma big fan of Steve Smith: a little trash-talker…just like Golden. ... "Golden Tate is a Steve Smith (carolina panthers) clone. " both trash talkers, similar size...the sky is the limit for golden

From one of Weis press conference.

if we could end up with golden tate we would be unstopble.Smitty & Tate lineing up opp of each other plus williams & stewart we would give defense cords fits cause they wont be able to stop both.

Don't we need a QB also? until that changes, it doesn't matter what receivers are brought in.

like I keep saying Jake is not the problem.its the retarded play calling of jeff davidson.

Sorry have to disagree. Steve Smith has made a average at best QB look good for years. If he had someone opposite him that was as good (Tate definitely has the potential) or even close to as good as himself, we would have one of the top O's in the league. But yes definitely need a QB I don't even know if have two Smiths could make Jake look better then mediocre.

Yes..but so much depends on who is running the show.

If fox is still here then.I think we will sign a vet QB(jason campbell)..Draft a WR in the 2nd..sign a vet WR.then take a QB in the 3rd or 4th..

But if a new coach is here then...IDK.lol

There will never be another Steve Smith like the one we have...ever. Although if we happen to draft golden tate i would hope he does just as good haha. you guys know what i mean when i say there will never be another 'Steve Smith'. No one will be quite like him.

There will be. When I was growing up my dad always told me there'd never be another <insert record breaking player here>, or this/that certain record would never be broken. Those records were broken (hi, Hammerin' Hank!), and there are indeed other Joe Montanas and Jerry Rices and Barry Sanders.

Trust me, one day we'll have an amazing wide receiver here who talks smack, and is fiesty, and lacks something most other WRs have (in Smith's case, height).

Doubt there will be another Jerry Rice, ever.

Does Davidson throw the ball too? You are drunk with Jake love. Jake Can not, I repeat CAN NOT throw the deep ball worth a poo anymore. Until a QB can stretch the field from time to time, The receivers won't matter. We are lucky to have a running game to make Jake look like a mediocre QB. But if he was just average we would be tearing it up right now. If Jake was the Jake from the Superbowl year or even the Jake from the first 2.5 games the year he got hurt. We would be dominating the league right now. I agree Davidson's play calling sucks most of the time, but it is not JUST his fault!

We had that WR on our roster allready and we cut him. It was D. Carter, all he lacked that is something most other WR's have was hands.

We cut Drew Carter cause he could not catch those long balls.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
