Canes in MSG: Puck Drop 7PM

Rangers got some of the best broadcast guys in the business. They could not stop giving props to the Canes. First broadcast team I've heard talk about how great the Canes are. In order:

1. Gave Pyotr a ton of props all game long. It was a consistent slurp fest.

2. Talked about how great of a prospect Jarvis is.

3. Stated over and over again how Slavin was the best defensemen in the League.

4. Even when the Rangers scored their second goal off of Fast, they didn't seem to give the Rangers props. Talked more about how it was off of Fast, but the Rangers player still deserved the goal.

5. talked about how dangerous the Canes were all night.

Also, one of the first things they said after the conclusion of the game was, "Congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes for winning the Metro Division." It was also said with a true congratulatory tone. You wouldn't often hear that from an opposing team's broadcasters, especially when that opposing team was the one fighting to also win that same division.

It was wild man. I kept texting my buddies the direct quotes and they were stunned.

Even on NBCSN last year none of those announcers gave the Canes any props.

    • I like the approach Morgan takes in free agency where we fill holes with at least serviceable players and use the draft for BPA. So, I expect us to bring in a Safety, 1 really good LB and 1 kinda so so vet LB in case they lose faith in Wallace, an edge rusher, and with ickey's injury I think we will be the team that overpays for a LT like Rasheed Walker with the plan to move him to RT depending on Ickey's health and how long Moton wants to play.
    • Look at Rashid Saheed contract for 2024. He was more productive than Coker but probably a good reference. I think it was 1 year 5.2 million.
    • I expect the same strategy as we did last year. 3 year deals for guys around 25 to 28 years old and have the cap number be lower in 2026 and back load the contracts for 2027 and 2028 when our cap space is 100 million in 2027 and 360 million in 2028. With the years of terrible drafting this team had under Rhule and Fitterer and the lack of picks from all the panic QB trades has made it where we have few long-term contract commitments on the roster.  I'm sure there's probably some restructures and cuts we can make to give ourselves some more room this year if we need it but overall, our cap situation is in a good spot under Dan and Brandt.  I think we'll be pretty big spenders again this year. With us making the playoffs and being in a weak division I see Morgan being pretty aggressive this offseason.
